Sezen Aksu
Sezen Aksu (born Fatma Sezen Yıldırım on July 13, 1954 in Sarayköy , Denizli ) is a Turkish pop singer and composer. Her nickname is Minik Serçe (German Little Sparrow). She is one of the most successful artists in Turkey.
life and career
When she was three years old, her family moved to İzmir with her . After dropping out of agricultural science studies, she completed singing training. She released her first single Haydi Şansım / Gel Bana in 1974 as Sezen Seley. Her first number one hit in Turkey was Olmaz Olsun / Seni Gidi Vurdumduymaz in 1976. Sezen Aksu has been married four times but kept the name from her first marriage.
Aksu writes and composes the music and lyrics of her songs herself. In addition to her works, she also writes and composes for numerous other musicians. She also uses the so-called Old Turkish in her lyrics, which is not used very often nowadays. Their most famous songs include u. a. Sen Ağlama (1984), Belalım (1989), Hadi Bakalım , Her Şeyi Yak (both 1991), Ben Send Tutuklu Kaldim (1998), Sarı Odalar (2000) or İstanbul İstanbul Olalı (2002).
Her most successful song Hadi Bakalım from the album Gülümse also appeared abroad and was successfully covered by Loona in 2002 (Rhythm of the Night) and sampled by Scooter in 2014 (Bigroom Blitz) .
In Turkey, Sezen Aksu is also known as a talent promoter. So far she has discovered and supported e.g. Artists such as Tarkan , Sertab Erener , Yıldız Tilbe , Hande Yener , Aşkın Nur Yengi , Levent Yüksel , Şebnem Ferah , Işın Karaca , Harun Kolçak , Seden Gürel , Mustafa Ceceli , Emel Müftüoğlu or Tuğba Özerk .
In the Turkish preliminary decision for the Euro Vision Song Contest 1984 , she failed with her song Bindokuzyüzkırkbeş .
In early 2022, she was sued and threatened by Islamist groups for insulting Islam after she reposted her 2017 dance song Şahane Bir Şey Yaşamak with lyrics on YouTube for the New Year. The lyrics contain an allusion to the sacred Adam and Eve . It says: "We are on our way to the apocalypse / Greet the ignorant / Eve and Adam." Recep Tayyip Erdoğan indirectly declared in martial words that she should be silenced for the statements. Numerous artists in Turkey showed their solidarity with Aksu. Aksu responded to the threats and criticism with a new song. The Turkish broadcasting authority RTÜK sent a notice to the radio stations that their song Şahane Bir Şey Yaşamak was being checked for violations of applicable laws.
Collaboration with other artists
In Germany, she also gained notoriety through a musical collaboration with Udo Lindenberg in the 1990s. In the late 1990s she collaborated with ex-Yugoslav musician Goran Bregović and his Wedding and Funeral Orchestra , resulting in the album The Wedding and the Funeral , which was internationally marketed by Universal .
In addition to collaborations with important Turkish artists such as the writer and poet Murathan Mungan or the rock musician Teoman Yakupoğlu , there were others with Müslüm Gürses or the well-known Turkish rapper Ceza . In 2005, starred in Crossing The Bridge - The Sound of Istanbul directed by Fatih Akin . She recorded the song Gelsin Hayat Bildiği Gibi with him in 2006, the original version of which can be found on Ceza's album Yerli Plaka . A remix version is available on Sezen Aksu 's 2009 double album Yürüyorum Düş Bahçeleri'nde… .
In 2009 there was a collaboration with the Grammy winner India.Arie . They recorded the song The Cure , featured on the India.Arie album Testimony: Vol. 2, Love & Politics .
She also recorded the song Gidiyorum Bu Şehirden , featured on Aksu's 2000 album Deliveren , with well-known Greek singer Haris Alexiou .

She also starred in two films ( Minik Serçe 1979, Büyük Yalnızlık 1989). In Fatih Akin 's 2005 documentary Crossing The Bridge - The Sound of Istanbul , Sezen Aksu is one of the protagonists.
