In Turkey he was considered a cult figure with a very large fan base. His followers call him Müslüm Baba (Father Mueslüm).
Gürses was born in 1953 in the village of Fıstıközü in the Halfeti district of the Şanlıurfa province as the first child of the farmer couple Emine and Mehmet Akbaş. His two siblings were named Ahmet and Zeyno. The family moved to Adana for economic reasons . At a young age, Gürses lost his mother and brother. His brother Ahmet was murdered and his own father killed his mother. Because of this, he did not speak to him until his father died.
In 1968 Müslüm Gürses began to sing in a tea garden. During his apprenticeship as a tailor, he performed in a casino, which started his singing career.
Music and family
Müslüm Gürses was childless and was married to the actress Muhterem Nur . To date, the number of albums he has released is unknown. It is believed that there are over 100 albums, about 75 of which were published by record companies and the remaining 25 were mostly illegally created by black copiers . Almost all of his songs deal with emotional subjects. They are songs about love, loneliness, etc. Since most of the songs by Müslüm Gürses are “particularly sad”, his songs form a “separate” area in Turkish classical / arabesque music.
Career
From 1968 his cassettes and records were released by the record companies Palandöken, Hülya Plak. After his last song Sevda Yüklü Kervanlar for the time being , he returned to Adana and took a break from music, during which he completed his military service. After finishing his service, he resumed his singing career.
traffic accident
On the way from Tarsus to Adana, Müslüm Gürses suffered a serious traffic accident in 1979. He was pronounced dead and taken to a morgue, where he freed himself on his own. He suffered serious injuries to his forehead and head and was given a metal plate. He lost his sense of smell and taste, and his hearing was impaired.
After the accident, Gürses said: “The driver died in the accident and they thought I was dead too. I was immediately taken to the hospital. I really did see my death ... I believe that I survived is solely God's work. Since my frontal bone is very thin, I can go blind or even die from a light blow. A metal plate was used in an operation. As a result of this terrible accident, I lost my sense of smell: Since then I have not been able to smell anything, even very strong perfumes only smell like alcohol to me. My hearing is also reduced by 50% ... But the most important thing is that I'm still alive. "

Gürses died of heart failure on March 3, 2013 after four months of treatment in an Istanbul hospital. On March 4, he was buried in the Zincirlikuyu Cemetery in Istanbul. In addition to hundreds of people, prominent artists and politicians also took part in the funeral services and funeral.
