Saraykoy

Sarayköy ( Turkish for palace village ) is a city in the district of the same name in the Turkish province of Denizli and at the same time a district of the Büyükşehir belediyesi Denizli (metropolitan municipality / metropolitan province ) created in 2012 . Sarayköy is about 24 km northwest of the center of Denizli . The Ilçe is the seventh largest in the province and with a population density almost reaches the provincial value of 84.7 inh. Per km².

history

The city's predecessor was a village named Sarıbey, named after a 14th-century Turkmen ruler . Sarayköy was a point of resistance against the Greek army in the Turkish Liberation War . Volunteers defended the Ahmetli Bridge over the Büyük Menderes River here to prevent the Greeks from occupying Denizli. According to the city's logo, Sarayköy was elevated to Belediye (municipality) in 1898 .

Economy and Infrastructure

The town's main livelihood is textile production , mainly the weaving and sewing of household textiles such as blankets, bed linen, table linen, curtains and drapes. Houses in the city are heated by a geothermal power plant in the village of Kızıldere , which was the first of its kind in Turkey. In the vicinity of the power station, dry ice is also produced and carbon dioxide is bottled. In the irrigated plain, cotton is mainly grown, which is stored in the city. Other sources of economy for the city are limestone mining and coal mining .

Attractions

The Ahmetli Bridge over the Büyük Menderes River, which is located about 15 km north of Sarayköy near the small town of Ahmetli of the same name , dates from Roman times. The middle part of the bridge was destroyed as a defensive measure during the Greco-Turkish War 1919–1922 . After the war, the bridge was rebuilt with reinforced concrete.
