Serinhisar (formerly Kızılhisar ) is a city in the district of the same name in the Turkish province of Denizli and at the same time a district of the Büyükşehir belediyesi Denizli (metropolitan municipality / metropolitan province ) created in 2012 . Serinhisar is located about 37 km southeast of the center of Denizli . Serinhisar was number 12 in the population ranking of all Ilçe in the province at the end of 2018.
The original Latin name of the city is Caria or Karia . Since the fortifications of Caria were made of red bricks, the city was called Kızılhisar , literally red castle , by the Seljuks . The castle fell into disrepair during the Ottoman period and the bricks were then used as building material. In 1954 it was finally completely torn down.
The city belonged to 1500 BC. To the Hittite Empire and later came into the hands of the Lydians (800 BC), Persians (546 BC), Hellenes (440 BC), Macedonians (334 BC) and Romans (133 BC) B.C.). When the Roman Empire was divided in 395, the city remained within the Byzantine Empire . Kızılhisar belonged to the Menteşe Beyliği in the Seljuk period , and to the Vilayet-i Aydın in the Ottoman period .
Kızılhisar received Belediye status in 1906 and was renamed Serinhisar, literally cool castle , in 1987 . Simultaneously with the renaming, some places were split off from Acipayam County and merged into the new Serinhisar County (Law No. 3392).
Today Serinhisar is known for its Leblebi production . Further branches of industry are the ceramics , rope and shoe industries .
