Teoman Yakupoğlu (born November 20, 1967 in Alucra , Turkey ) is a Turkish rock musician .

Before Teoman turned three, his father, who was a lawyer, died. Teoman was raised by his mother, aunts, and other women. He mostly read women's magazines and became interested in women's problems from an early age. He studied sociology at the Bosphorus University in Istanbul and did his Masters in women's studies at the University of Istanbul .

Beginnings

Teoman founded his first music group Indians with friends in 1986 and was henceforth the singer of this band. After numerous concerts, the group disbanded because they were never offered a record deal. Then Teoman sang with various artists for their albums and was a singer in various musical groups. In 1996 the Turkish record label named Roxy Teoman - among other things for his titles Ne Ekmek ne de Su and Yollar from his later first album - as "best composition" and "best group".

Career

This award led to greater awareness and thus to Teoman's first album Teoman . His following albums O and Onyedi were produced by Rıza Erekli . Although Teoman writes most of the songs himself, numerous cover versions were also very successful : Gemiler from O was composed by Orhan Atasoy and Ercüment Vural ; Uykusuz her Gece from Onyedi is a classic by Ajda Pekkan ; O Yaz from Onyedi is from Bora Ayanoğlu ; the album Gönülçelen contains Anlıyorsun değilmi by Barış Manço and Sevdim seni bir kere by Özdemir Erdoğan .

Teoman wrote the script and the soundtrack for the 2005 film Balans ve Manevra (English balance and maneuver ). Teoman also played a role and directed this film . He also played in the films Filler ve Çimen (German elephants and grass , 2001), Bank (German bank , 2002), Mumya Firarda (German The mummy broke out , 2002), Barda (German In der Bar , 2007) and Romantik (German: Romantic , 2007) and made a name for himself as an actor. He wrote the soundtrack for the film Romantik , in which Teoman can be seen alongside the Turkish star actor and entertainer Okan Bayülgen .

Teoman also worked with numerous Turkish artists. In 2007 Teoman went on tour with the renowned Turkish singer Bülent Ortaçgil . He also recorded songs with artists such as Sezen Aksu , Candan Erçetin , Yalın , Göksel , Hande Yener , İzel , Mirkelam and Yavuz Bingöl .

Teoman's best-known songs include titles such as Papatya (1996), Kardelen (1998), Gemiler (1998), Paramparça (2000), Onyedi (2000), İki Yabanci (2000), Rüzgar Gülü (2000), Gönülçelen (2001), İstanbul'da Sonbahar (2001) or Duş (2004).

The writer Elif Shafak wrote lyrics for Teoman.
