Tarkan
Tarkan (born October 17, 1972 in Alzey , Germany ; bourgeois Tarkan Tevetoğlu ) is an internationally successful German- Turkish pop musician .
Life
Tarkan Tevetoğlu spent his childhood as the son of Turkish guest workers in his birthplace, Alzey in the Rhine-Hesse region . In 1986 his family decided to return to Turkey. His family comes from the northeast Turkish city of Rize . In 1991 the family returned to Germany.
Career
In 1992 Tevetoğlu recorded his first album with Mehmet Söğutoğlu from Istanbul Plak . Two years later his second record was released.
In 1999 Tevetoğlu had his greatest success so far with his first compilation TARKAN (by Polygram ) with the single Şımarık (Frech, Verwöhnt) . This song is probably the world's most famous Turkish-language pop song; he received a World Music Award in Monaco .
Tarkan, who is one of the few Turkish singers who is also internationally successful, has already given concerts in football stadiums in Buenos Aires and Cairo , among others, and has performed in London at Alexandra Palace (1999) and at the Olympia in Paris . He made it into the top 5 in Belgium , France , Russia , Germany, Bulgaria , Romania and the Netherlands .
At the soccer world championships in Japan and South Korea in 2002 , Tevetoğlu sang the song Bir oluruz yolunda (On your way we unite) for the Turkish national team . There was also a video clip for this song.
In 2004 a perfume was launched under his name.
In October 2005 Tevetoğlu released his first English-language single Bounce under his own label Hitt Müzik in Turkey. The accompanying album Come Closer was released by Universal in 2006 . On July 31, 2006, the second single Start the Fire Mousse T. Remix from the album Come Closer had its video premiere after several delays.
On December 23, 2007 Tevetoğlu released the album Metamorfoz . It was certified platinum on April 14, 2008 for more than 200,000 copies sold. A year later, on May 5, 2009, the album was awarded a diamond record for a total of more than 300,000 units sold .
His album Adımı Kalbine Yaz , released on July 28, 2010, sold 307,500 copies in the first three weeks. A total of 355,000 units of the album will be sold by the end of the year, making it the best-selling album of the year in Turkey.
Controversy
From 1998 Tevetoğlu came into conflict with the Turkish authorities, who demanded that he perform military service. Finally, after a cash payment of $ 16,000 to Turkey, he joined the military for a shortened time (1 month) in 2000 before releasing his fourth record, Karma .
In the same year, a blackmailer tried unsuccessfully to put Tevetoğlu under pressure for alleged homosexuality . When Tevetoğlu did not comply with the blackmailer's demands to pay 135,000 dollars, he passed photos on to a Turkish tabloid. The report and pictures contributed to the conviction of the Tevetoğlu blackmailer, but still gave new impetus to existing rumors. Tevetoğlu denies being homosexual and justified the photos in a later interview by saying that he was at most "confused" at the time, but "never gay".
On February 25, 2010, Tarkan and other people were arrested during a drug raid by the Turkish police in Istanbul, but were later released. He was given a suspended sentence and required to attend a year of drug therapy and to have regular check-ups in a hospital.
