Severine

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Séverine (born October 10, 1948 in Paris ; actually: Josiane Grizeau ) is a French pop singer who was particularly successful in German-speaking countries in the 1970s .

Life

Séverine initially wanted to become a teacher of French and English. At the age of 14 she sang in various amateur bands in her spare time and recorded her first record in 1967 under the pseudonym "Celine" .

From 1968 she appeared as "Robbie Lorr" in the Parisian music club Golf Drouot . In 1969 she got a record deal from Georges Aber under her best-known stage name "Séverine" and the first single was released. The success came in 1970 with the theme song of the movie That Came Out of the Rain . She had her breakthrough in 1971 at the Eurovision Song Contest , when she took first place for Monaco with Un banc, un arbre, une rue (German recording close your eyes ) . She recorded the song in several languages and it became a million-dollar hit.

She went on tour with big stars like Joe Dassin , Sacha Distel and Michel Sardou . In 1972 she represented her home country with Là où l'amour s'en va at the Chanson Festival in Viña del Mar, Chile . Then she was allowed to perform at the Paris Olympia .

A few records were still released in France until 1973. Subsequently, a legal dispute with her discoverer and manager Georges, which lasted until the 1980s, prevented Séverine from further publications in her home country for a long time. Séverine moved her singing focus to Germany . There she had already released some singles with titles such as Monsieur le General, Ja der Eiffel Tower , Olala l'amour or What becomes of a lost love , almost all of which became hits after winning the Grand Prix in 1971 . Some of their songs are now among the evergreens of German pop hits. Séverine was a guest on numerous music programs, including several times in the ZDF hit parade . She was also a star in the GDR .

In 1975 Séverine applied with the song " Dreh dich im Kreisel der Zeit" to the German preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest and finished in 7th place. After the birth of her son, she was seen less often in public. In 1977 she moderated an edition of the ZDF Sunday concert .

In 1981 she had her last major success with the German recording of the hit by the Goombay dance band Seven Tears ( Seven Tears ). So she was again a guest in the ZDF hit parade. In 1982 she again applied for the German preliminary round of the Eurovision Song Contest with the title I believe in my dreams , but only achieved 10th place.

From the end of the 1980s until 2003, more of her singles were released, but she could no longer build on her old successes.

In 1999 the first CD was released in France after many years . She then performed again in Paris in December 2000. From 2002 she gave singing lessons three times a week in a music school in Paris. Séverine has a son (* 1975) with whom she lives in the 18th arrondissement of Paris on Montmartre .
