Gérard Christian Eric Lenorman (born February 9, 1945 in Bénouville , Calvados department in Normandy ) is a French singer and chansonnier . He belonged to a young generation of chansonniers who no longer composed and sang in the classical style, but represented the youth culture of their time and performed French pop songs in the spirit of the late 1960s / 1970s.

Life

Gérard Lenorman's mother, Madeleine Lenorman, gave birth to her son at the age of 16 in the maternity ward of the Château de Bénouville, an institution run by nuns since 1927 for the reception of underage pregnant women. His father was registered as unknown. It was only at the age of 35, after spending part of his childhood in an orphanage and becoming a well-known chansonnier as a young man, that Gérard Lenorman learned that his father had been a soldier in the German occupation forces, who had the first name Erich and was a violinist in civilian life and was a conductor . Still, he should never get to know his father. On the occasion of the late revelation of his own origin, he wrote a song in 1980 with the German title line Why my father .

Lenorman recorded his first record in 1967. In 1968 he met Brigitte Bardot and wrote two chansons for her ( La Fille de paille and Je voudrais perdre la mémoire ). In 1969 he appeared with several of his songs in the accompanying program of Sylvie Vartan's tour . In 1970/71 he took over the lead role from Julien Clerc in the French version of the musical Hair . In 1971 he signed a recording deal with CBS Disques, and in the following years his greatest hits appeared, including Il (Il parle aux oiseaux) , 1971; Les matins d'hiver , 1972; Si tu ne me laisses pas tomber , 1973; Quelque chose et moi , 1974; La Ballade des gens heureux , 1975; Michèle , 1976; L'enfant des cathédrales , 1977; Si j'étais président , 1980.

His most successful song in Germany was La Ballade des gens heureux ; Michèle was also often played by German broadcasters. In 1986 Lenorman released the song Les Bleu des regrets , which was based on the Berlin classic Take My Breath Away , which was released in the same year . In 1988 he took part in the Eurovision Song Contest for France ; his contribution Chanteur de charme made it to 10th place with 64 points.

Lenorman made a remarkable comeback in late 2011 when a collection of duets, Duos de mes chansons , landed at number two on the French album charts. The work included new recordings of his great successes; He was supported by colleagues such as Tina Arena , Anggun and Patrick Fiori . Duos de mes chansons stayed in the charts for over a year.

Lenorman had four children with his wife Caroline: Mathieu (1974), Justine (1977), Clémence (1980) and Victor (1985). The marriage ended in divorce in 1989.
