Laurent Amir Khlifa Khedider Haddad ( Hebrew עמיר חדד, born June 20, 1984 in Paris ) is an Israeli - French singer . He represented France at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in Stockholm .

life and career

Amir grew up in Sarcelles north of Paris and is of Jewish origin ; his parents come from the Maghreb states (Tunisia and Morocco). He has been deaf in his right ear since birth.

At the age of eight, the family moved to Israel, where he began his musical career in 2008 by participating in the talent show Kochav Nolad , but did not achieve long-term success in the music business. His breakthrough came back in France with his third place on The Voice: la plus belle voix in 2014. On July 7, 2014, he married his long-term friend Lital in Israel.

On February 29, 2016, the French broadcaster France 2 announced that Haddad had been selected internally from the submissions of a public tender to compete at the ESC 2016 with the song J'ai cherché (English: I was looking). He was allowed to appear in the final on May 14, 2016, because France, as a member of the so-called Big Five , did not have to qualify through the semi-finals. Amir finished sixth - the best result for France since 2002.
