Tina Arena
Tina Arena (born November 1, 1967 in Melbourne ), bourgeois Filippina Lydia Arena , is an Australian singer and songwriter who is said to have sold around ten million records over the course of her career, which has been going on since 1974, making her one of the most successful artists in the country. In 2008 she was the first Australian woman to be appointed Knight of the Ordre national du Mérite .
Career
Tina Arena's career began at the age of seven on the TV show Young Talent Time . As a teenager, Arena recorded her first solo single, Turn up the Beat, in 1985 . Her breakthrough as a singer came in Australia in 1990 when the dance-pop title I Need Your Body reached number three on the Australian singles charts. The song comes from her solo debut Strong As Steel , which was released that same year.
In 1995, Arena had its international breakthrough with the title Chains , which was a top 10 hit in the UK and also hit the charts in the US and Germany. Less successful hits like Heaven Help My Heart , Show Me Heaven and Sorrento Moon followed. In 1998 she sang in a duet with Marc Anthony the song I Want to Spend My Lifetime Loving You from the pen of producer James Horner , the theme music for the movie The Mask of Zorro , which was a very big hit, especially in France. As a result, Arena recorded songs in French that sold millions of copies. This includes the platinum single Aller plus hau t, which landed at number two in the French charts in 1999. Hits like Les 3 cloches (2000), Aimer jusqu'à l'impossible (2005), Je m'appelle Badgdad (2006) and Entends-tu le monde? (2008), all top 10 successes in France.
From the mid-1990s, three songs written by Arena reached the US country hit lists through cover versions . Wynonna Judd reached the top 15 with Heaven Help My Heart in 1996 , Terri Clark had a small success with Unsung Hero and Jo Dee Messina even landed at number two on the C&W charts with Burn . In the following decade, other country singers such as Pam Tillis ( If I Didn't Love You , 2001), LeAnn Rimes ( You Made Me Find Myself , 2002) or Kellie Coffey ( Love's Funny That Way , 2002) recorded songs by Arena . In Europe, Barbara Dex ( Closer to You , 2000) and Jill Johnson ( Only in Your Dreams , 2000) followed the example of their American colleagues and recorded titles from Arena.
Arena sang the song The Flame at the opening ceremony of the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney . In Paris , she sang in 2011 at the podium of the Tour de France after the total victory of their compatriot Cadel Evans , the Australian national anthem .
Her autobiography Now I Can Dance was published in October 2013, named after the 1998 hit of the same name and heralded its 40th anniversary in the music industry. Her tenth studio album Reset was released at the same time .
In 2015 Arena was honored with the induction into the ARIA Hall of Fame .
In April 2018, Arena released their twelfth studio album Quand Tout Recommence in France. At the end of the same year she appeared in the title role of the musical Evita at the Sydney Opera House .
Private
Tina Arena was married to her former manager and producer Ralph Carr from 1995 to 1999. She has been in a relationship with the French Vincent Mancini since 2000. They have one son. They lived together in Paris for a few years before Arena moved back to Melbourne with her family in 2017.
