The 55th Eurovision Song Contest took place from May 25 to 29, 2010 in the Telenor Arena in the metropolitan area of the Norwegian capital Oslo . The country was for the third time venue, after the Norwegian contribution Fairytale by Alexander Rybak in the previous year to 54 Euro Vision Song Contest in Moscow had won. 39 countries took part. All three programs were moderated by Erik Solbakken , Haddy N'jie and Nadia Hasnaoui . The German contribution Satellite , a song by the US songwriter Julie Frost and the Danish composer John Gordon , was performed by the singer Lena Meyer-Landrut and won the competition.
The motto of the event was “Share the Moment” . Before the artists' performances, short video clips made in the respective participating countries were shown. In the finale, pictures from living rooms in the respective country were also faded in at the beginning of the broadcast and after each song. Between the presentation of the songs and the announcement of the results, pictures of the so-called Eurovision Flash Mob Dance from various European cities were shown.
Voting rule
The system introduced in 2009 of adding audience votes and the ratings of a jury in a “50/50 list” in the finals was retained in 2010. It was also used for the first time in the semi-finals. In the previous year, nine out of ten songs were selected for the final after calls from the audience and one entry was qualified by the jury's decision. As in the previous year, the individual results were also officially announced later. The German jurors were Hape Kerkeling , Mary Roos , Hadnet Tesfai , Johannes Oerding and Jochen Rausch . Another new feature was that calls were possible from the very first song. This was introduced by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) as it was more logical to call for a song when you hear it rather than wait for the performances to end. In the final - as in the years since 2006 - the points 1 to 7 were only displayed, only the three highest points were read out: eight, ten and twelve points.
Attendees
countries
In the run-up to the Eurovision Song Contest 2009, the European Broadcasting Union had declared that it wanted to achieve a full house in the 2010 competition, but this failed: In addition to the desired potential returnees Italy, Luxembourg, Monaco and Austria, the previous year's participants Andorra , Montenegro , the Czech Republic and Hungary also waived . The broadcasters of Andorra, Montenegro and Hungary have decided to bid farewell to the competition primarily for financial reasons, whereby it should not be forgotten that none of the three countries were represented in the final in the last two years. The Czech viewers no longer showed sufficient interest in the competition because of the poor results.
Georgia returned to the competition after withdrawing due to disputes over the selected song last year. The title We Don't Wanna Put in the group Stefane & 3G was said to be of a political nature, which is forbidden at the Eurovision Song Contest.
In the run-up to this, there were demands or speculation about withdrawals in some countries, which did not all come true. In Macedonia , television there considered withdrawing if the qualification rules did not change. The country's candidates came in tenth place twice in a row in the semifinals, but did not qualify for the final due to the jury evaluation, which was felt to be unfair. When the rules were changed, Macedonia confirmed its participation. After Azerbaijan violated the rules in the previous year's competition, the country's participation was considered unsafe until the announcement of (provisional) impunity. Because of the announcement that Azerbaijan would go without penalty, Armenian participation was unclear for a long time. It was only when the EBU fined Azerbaijan and Spain, which had also broken the rules, that the country confirmed its participation.

Semifinals
draw
Since there have been two semi-finals, a semi-final allocation draw has become necessary to draw the countries into the respective preliminary rounds. The semi-final draw for the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 took place on February 7, 2010 in Oslo. In advance, the 34 countries were sorted into five pots. This was done from various angles. The five countries that are directly qualified for the final ( Germany , France , Spain and the United Kingdom as big donors (Big Four) and Norway as hosts) were also divided into the two semi-finals, in which they were each entitled to vote.

Split results of jury and televoting (final)
On June 28, 2010, the EBU published a table on its website in which it compared the actual result of the “combined voting” with the fictitious points that would have resulted from a pure jury or audience vote. This shows that the first and last places in Germany and the United Kingdom were confirmed in both variants, but otherwise there were major differences. For example, the Belgian entry, which ended up in sixth place, was ranked second in the sum of all juries, but only ranked 14th among all viewers. Also in France, Serbia and Israel, as the EBU writes, there were “significantly different points levels of juries and televoters ":
At the same point, the EBU also published the results of the “split voting” for both semi-finals.

In Switzerland, the second semi-final and the final were broadcast on SF two . In the run-up, a special edition of The Biggest Swiss Hits ran on the Swiss contributions to the ESC. The first semi-final was not broadcast, nor was it broadcast in high definition on HD suisse . The non-participating Austria did not broadcast the Eurovision Song Contest 2010, as did Italy , although reception in the Austrian national territory and in the Trentino-South Tyrol region was possible via Das Erste . In Hungary, the station Duna Televízió broadcast all three programs live instead of the EBU member MTV . The competition was broadcast in Kosovo , as well as in Australia , Kazakhstan and New Zealand , although these countries are unable to participate in the contest. The entire Eurovision Song Contest could be seen as a live stream on the Internet via the official website eurovision.tv .
Others
Unlike in previous years, the Green Room , in which the delegations from the participating countries were after their appearance, was not placed in a separate room, but in the main hall in which the actual event took place. The aim was to bring the artists closer to the fans and make it possible to experience the performances of other countries not only on a screen, but in front of your eyes. This prevailed and was used at every contest from this point on, with the exception of 2013 and 2019, when the Greenroom was in a separate hall with its own audience ranks.
The selection of the Ukrainian contribution was changed several times: first of all, the singer Vasyl Lasarowytsch was chosen by the NTU TV channel to represent the country. On March 6, 2010, he presented six songs, from which the title I love you… was chosen. After a change in leadership at NTU, however, Lasarowytsch was disqualified on March 17 on the grounds that the station's internal choice of interpreter was too undemocratic. On March 20, a new preliminary decision was held with twenty entries, which the singer Alyosha won with the song To Be Free . It turned out that the song was released in 2008 and was also a plagiarism, so a new title had to be found. Eventually, the song Sweet People by the same singer was selected, but not within the deadline, so Ukraine was fined.
During the finals on May 29, 2010, the Spanish racer Jimmy Jump sneaked into the dance choreography of the Spaniard Daniel Diges . In doing so, he imitated the artists' dance movements, so that it was initially unclear whether he would be part of the performance or not. Only when the security personnel intervened was his disruptive action ended. Diges, who started the race with starting number two, was allowed to perform again after the 25th participant (Denmark).
Production costs for the state broadcasting company in Norway, NRK, amounted to around 25 million euros. Several television series were temporarily suspended for financing purposes and the broadcasting rights for the soccer World Cup were sold again.
The Australian television broadcaster SBS broadcast the two semifinals and the final of the 55th Eurovision Song Contest each with a day delay in the evening. As every year, a televoting took place among the Australian viewers. The Turkish contribution (44.163 points) was voted first just ahead of Greece (43.480). The German winning title was by far (16.138 points) third among the 25 finalists. The contributions from Serbia (fourth place), Iceland (8th), Bosnia and Herzegovina (10th) and Ireland (14th) were able to place far better, while Azerbaijan (18th) and Denmark (19th) in the lower third of the Field of participants landed.
