Fairytale is an English-language folk - pop song by the Norwegian singer and violinist Alexander Rybak , who won first place with the piece at the Eurovision Song Contests 2009 in Moscow .

Eurovision Song Contest

Fairytale was selected in the course of the Norwegian ESC preliminary decision Melodi Grand Prix on February 21, 2009 and received a record number of points. In the course of the ESC 2009 Rybak qualified first for the final with the piece about the second semifinals. He was then able to win this with 387 points. Both the number of points and the lead over the runner-up was a record in the history of the competition.
