Olia Tira (born August 1, 1988 in Potsdam , actually Olga Țîra ) is a Moldovan singer. Together with the group SunStroke Project and the song Run away , she represented her home country at the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 in Norway , after winning the national preliminary round with top marks from the jury and the audience. There the formation took 22nd place.

Life

Olia Tira was born in 1988 as the daughter of a Red Army officer in Potsdam in the former GDR . After her father was transferred, she completed school in the southern Moldavian city of Cahul and in 2006 switched to the Moldovan Music and Theater Academy in the capital, Chișinău . In the same year she took eighth place in the Moldovan preliminary decision with the song Iubirea mea . She was also represented in the preliminary round in 2008 and 2009, but could not prevail with either Always Will Be (2008) or Unicul meu (2009). In 2008, she took a shared first place, but the jury decided that Geta Burlacu was preferred.

In 2007 she released her debut album Your Place or Mine? . She counts Madonna among her role models.
