particularities
Interpreter of the winning title, Jean-Claude Pascal , in 1968 (seated)
The first time the Eurovision Song Contest took place on a Saturday evening. The following year the competition was held on a different weekday for the last time.
Germany sent Lale Andersen, an already internationally known singer, whose song Lili Marleen went around the world during World War II. She sang the first multilingual contribution in the history of the competition: I'll see you again in German and French. The winner was the French singer and actor Jean-Claude Pascal starting for Luxembourg with the song Nous les amoureux .
The Swedish contribution April, April was originally supposed to be sung by Siw Malmkvist , who had also represented the country the year before. However, she was replaced by Lill-Babs .
Attendees
With 16 countries, there was again a new participation record in 1961. The following three countries participated for the first time: Finland , Spain and Yugoslavia .
Voting procedure
The voting procedure remained unchanged. Again there were ten jury members in each country, each of whom was allowed to give one vote to a song. The results were communicated by telephone and publicly.
