The 5th Eurovision Young Dancers took place on June 15, 1993 at Dansens hus, in Stockholm , Sweden . The host was SVT , which was commissioned to host a Eurovision Young Dancer for the first time.

The winner was the Spanish dancer Zenaida Yanowsky with her dance Esmeralda . It was the third time that Spain was able to win the competition. It was also the first time that a country had won the competition twice in a row. Second place went to the Swiss dancer Kusha Angst. In contrast, third place went to the dancers from France and Austria.

SVT chose the Dansens hus in Stockholm as the venue . It was the first time that Sweden hosted an EYD.

format

Dancers between the ages of 16 and 21 could perform. However, only solo dancers or couples could compete. There was another semi-final, as the number of participants would otherwise exceed the time frame. There all 15 participants competed against each other, but only eight of them qualified for the final. There was still a professional jury, but this again awarded 1st to 3rd place. The chairman of the jury was the Swedish dancer Nils-Åke Häggbom. The other jury members were:

Moderation

The Swedish dancer and actress Anneli Alhanko and the Swedish presenter and journalist John Chrispinsson acted as moderators.

  • A total of 15 countries took part in the Eurovision Young Dancers in 1993, as many as in 1991 . However, Bulgaria, Italy, the Netherlands and Portugal withdrew from the competition. Yugoslavia also withdrew from the competition, as the country had meanwhile disintegrated into its republics. Of these republics, however, only Slovenia made its debut. Estonia, Greece and Poland also took part for the first time in 1993. Austria, on the other hand, returned to the competition and thus participated in the competition for the first time since 1989 .
