Jorma Uotinen (born June 28, 1950 in Pori ) is a Finnish dancer and choreographer .

Life

Uotinen studied at the ballet school of the Finnish National Opera and in Switzerland . From 1970 to 1976 he had an engagement with the Finnish National Ballet .

His first work as a choreographer took place in 1974 with the choreography Zeitenja to the music of Aulis Sallinen . From 1976 to 1980 he was part of the Groupe des Récherches Theatrales de`l Opera de Paris . He achieved his artistic breakthrough with the world premiere of the choreography Unohdettu horisontti at the Helsinki Festival Week in 1980 . Light plays an important role in his lyrical, very visual works. He worked at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice from 1980 to 1981. From 1980 to 1991 he worked at the Helsinki City Theater , first as the first dancer and choreographer, then as the artistic director of the theater's dance group. Solo B12, which he had created in 1989 for the male choreography Ballet Pathétique , had great international success . In 1992 he became director of the Finnish National Ballet.

Uotinen also staged outside of Finland, for example at the Paris Opera in 1979 and 1987, at La Scala in 1983 and 1985 and in 1995 for the Vienna International Dance Weeks .
