The 1970 Eurovision Song Contest was the 15th competition since the beginning of the annual Eurovision and music industry event in 1956. It took place in the Amsterdam Convention Center on March 21, 1970, the then official name was the 15th Eurovisie Song Festival . The show was moderated by Willy Dobbe from the Netherlands . The competition was won by singer Dana for Ireland with the song All Kinds of Everything .

particularities

Lenny Kuhr , one of last year's four winners, and Dana

After there had been four winners last year, there were some difficulties before the Netherlands agreed to host the host.

In order to avoid a tie like last year, it was decided that in the event of a tie, the other countries (with the exception of those to be assessed) should vote again. If there is still no winner, two or more winners would be chosen.

For the first time, the stage was designed with hanging balls and a semicircle so that it could change individually for each contribution. In addition, the songs were announced with a "postcard".

For the first time in Latin America, the competition was broadcast live via satellite from Brazil and Chile.

Attendees

  • participating countries
  • Countries that had participated in a previous ESC, but not in 1970
  • This year the number of participants fell to 12, as four countries boycotted the competition. Finland , Norway , Portugal and Sweden were dissatisfied with the circumstances and voting mechanisms at last year's event. The Nordic countries officially justified their absence with the poor level of the show and the small chances of winning smaller countries over international stars. Even Austria renounced, although it had not taken part in protest against the Spanish dictator at last year's competition. The TV program director of Hessischer Rundfunk , Hans-Otto Grünefeldt , even suspected in advance that the ESC 1970 would be the last.

    Voting procedure

Again, the same voting procedure applied as in previous years. In each country there were again 10 jury members who were each allowed to give one vote to a song. The results were communicated by telephone and publicly.
