Jean Vallée (actually Paul Goeders ; born October 2, 1941 in Verviers , Wallonia ; † March 12, 2014 in Clermont-sur-Berwinne ) was a Belgian singer and songwriter who represented Belgium at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1970 and 1978 .

biography

Goeders was born in Verviers during the Second World War as one of six siblings. In 1966 he received the press award at the Coupe d'Europe du tour de chant by Knokke . In 1967 he took part in the Festival do Rio BR for Belgium . In 1969 he released his first album on Philips Records. In the same year he accompanied Juliette Gréco on a tour through France.

In 1970, Vallée took part in the Belgian preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest , which was organized by the Belgian television station RTB under the title Chanson euro '70 . With the self-written title Viens l'oublier, the singer was able to win the preselection against the remaining three participants by a clear margin after successfully qualifying for the semi-finals. At the Eurovision Song Contest in Amsterdam in 1970 he received five points and, together with the Italian representative Gianni Morandi and the Monegasque representative Dominique Dussault, came eighth among twelve participants. In the same year Nana Mouskouri covered his title La vague . Shortly afterwards he moved to Paris and played in the western Fusil chargé .

In 1976 he became part of the Don Camillo cabaret program . The following year he released the album Divine . In 1978 he again took part in the Belgian preliminary round for the Eurovision Song Contest. With the also self-written song L'amour ça fait chanter la vie , he was able to prevail against the other seven participants. At the Eurovision Song Contest 1978 in Paris he was very successful and came in second behind the Israeli representative Izhar Cohen with 125 points. It should be the best Belgian result in the competition by the first win in 1986 .

From 1980, Vallée played the role of Javert in the musical Les Misérables in a production by Robert Hossein . The performance was attended by around 500,000 people. In 1981 he released another album that also contained two songs from the musical. In 1982 he went on tour with Annie Cordy and, after graduation, hosted the television program La bonne étoile on RTBF for four years . In 1986 he wrote the song Non Monsieur for Michel Leeb . After another studio album in 1989, a CD with Vallée's greatest hits was released in 1994. In 1999 he was by King Albert II. To the Knights defeated the "Ordre de la Couronne". In 2001 he released his last album Airs de vie . Until recently he had regular live appearances.
