Pas de deux was an experimental music project by the Belgian artist Walter Verdin. In addition to Verdin himself, the trio consisted of the singers Dett Peyskens and Hilde van Roy.
history
Verdin was still an art student when Pas de deux was founded, but had already had small successes as a musician with Specimen & The Rizikoos. The trio released their first single in 1982, but The Lonely Guys attracted little attention. In 1983 the group took part in the Belgian preliminary round of the Eurovision Song Contest , which was organized by the Flemish TV station BRT under the title Eurosong 1983 . First, in a semi - final round, the song Rendez-vous was chosen for the final round from among the three contributions from the Hartedief group - Cardio Cleptomanie , Rendez-vous and Celo . In the final itself, Pas de deux came out on top with 67 points and thus 27 points ahead of the singer Sofie. The experimental contribution, which was mostly instrumental and only contained the repetitive words "Rendez-vous - Maar de maat is vol en m'n kop is toe" (for example: "Rendez-vous - enough and I'll shut up") , was highly controversial. After the winning title was announced, the group was booed loudly on stage during the preliminary round. At the Eurovision Song Contest 1983 in Munich , the group was unsuccessful and with 13 points reached 18th and third from last place. However, the group from Spain received the third highest rating with eight points. The song reached the top 30 of the Flemish sales charts and was awarded the Zomerhit Prize for Best Single in 1983 . It was also the first song to be played by the newly created radio station Studio Brussel, now one of the most popular Belgian radio stations. In 1983 Pas de deux published their third and final single Mani meme , the text of which was written in a fantasy language. Due to the lack of success, Pas de deux separated in the same year.
After the separation
Walter Verdin is now a respected video artist. Hilde van Roy works as a television journalist. Only Dett Peyskens is still active as a singer. In 2001 she joined the Red Zebra group. She also starred in the films Le mur and Jump .
