Jacques Raymond

Jacques Raymond (* 13. October 1938 in Temse as Jozef Remon ) is a Belgian singer .

biography

Raymond became known when he took part in the casting show Ontdek de ster ( Discover the Star ) in 1955 . In the following years he worked as a singer on many programs on Belgian television. In 1961 he took part for the first time in the Belgian preliminary round of the Eurovision Song Contest ( Finale van de belgische bijdrage tot het songfestival ). With the title Als je weent, als je laughs , he took second place behind the winner Bob Benny . Two years later he took part again in the preliminary round, this time under the title Canzonissima . With 292 points and thus only three points ahead of Lize Marke , he won the preliminary decision with the song Waarom . At the Eurovision Song Contest in London in 1963 , he landed in the lower midfield and reached tenth place among 16 participants with four points. Over the 1960s he published singles in Dutch , German and French . In 1971 he again took part in the Eurovision Song Contest , this time in a duet with Lily Castel . Originally, the duo did not take part in the Belgian preliminary round, but stepped in for the duo Nicole & Hugo, who had yellow fever , at short notice . With Goeiemorgen, tomorrow they took 14th place out of 18 participants. The original version of the song was a huge commercial success in Belgium, but Raymond and Castel never released it on record. Raymond released a few more singles in the 1970s. In 1993 he was a member of the jury for the Belgian song contest Eurosong .
