Clouseau is a Flemish pop group that is successful in Belgium and the Netherlands , where they had numerous hits.

Band history

Clouseau was founded in 1984 by from near Brussels founded originating brothers Kris (born December 21, 1964) and Koen Wauters (born September 17, 1967) with drummer Bob Savenberg (born November 29, 1961). The band was named after the stupid inspector from the crime comedy The Pink Panther . In 1989 they took part in the Belgian preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest . Although the band narrowly failed in second place, their contribution Anne became a hit and took first place in their home country. Your debut album Hoezo? (rhymes with Clouseau) contained a second top hit with Daar gaat ze , which also made it to second place in the Netherlands. They achieved further high placements in both countries with their second album Of zo in 1990 .

Then they tried again at the Eurovision Song Contest. With Geef het op they were able to participate in the contest . Although they only ended up in 16th place in the final, this opened up international markets. They recorded their first hits again in English. From Daar gaat ze was Close Encounters , which was successful in the German-speaking countries. In Germany, the English-language album of the same name and two other singles, including her first hit Anna , made it into the charts. In addition, Clouseau went on their Summer Joyride European tour in 1992 as the opening act for Roxette . At the same time, however, their third Flemish album, Doorgaan , was released, with which they continued their successes in Belgium and the Netherlands.

With their second English-language album In Every Small Town they intended to continue their international career. With Live Like Kings and Take Me Down , two more songs made it into the lower ranks of the German charts, but the album itself could not place itself and so the interest in the Belgian band died out again.

When there was no international success, Clouseau concentrated again on Flemish-language texts and thus on their Flemish homeland and the Netherlands. In 1995 the album Oker was released , with which they came first in both countries for the first time. They also had their only number one hit in the Netherlands with the song Passie . But from the mid-90s onwards, the company's success began to decline. There were no single successes and the albums no longer achieved the high placements. It was completely different in their Belgian homeland, where they had nine number one albums and four other top ten albums and two other number one singles from 1995 to 2013. Her albums are regularly awarded gold and platinum . One of her most successful albums is the best-of compilation Clouseau 20 from 2007, which has already achieved five platinum status.
