Life

Beginnings and first album "Text and Sound"

Clueso grew up in Ichtershausen south of Erfurt. He describes his school days as very difficult; he finished his school career with the secondary school certificate and then took up training as a hairdresser , which he did not complete.

Clueso - the name is borrowed from the character of Inspector Clouseau from Blake Edwards ' film The Pink Panther - has been making music since 1995, initially with the EFP 96 ( Erfurt Project 1996 ), which later became the Wostok MCs . In addition to Clueso, the Wostok MCs also included DJ Malik and Steer M, who still often perform with Clueso today. Through numerous jams in Kassablanca in Jena and in other cities in Germany, he was able to train his skills as a rapper and entertainer .

After breaking off his hairdressing apprenticeship in 1998, he met his future manager, Andreas Welskop. The first self-made vinyl release Clüsolo (then still called Clüso ) did not appear in stores , but only served promotional purposes . In 1999 he moved with Welskop to the 10vor10 studios in Cologne , and a year later he got a record deal with Four Music . The first Clueso album Text and Sound was released on this label in 2001 . With his live band Curfew , Clueso u. a. at the MTV HipHop Open in Stuttgart and at the Beats for Life in Cologne. In total, Clueso completed more than 100 concerts with a band and a DJ set.

2002–2005: Second album “Gute Musik” and musical breakthrough

In 2002 Clueso moved back to Erfurt and recorded the Rowdy Club tape 2002 as the front man of the Rowdy Club (now Rhythm Club ) in the newly established Zughafen , located in a building in the old Erfurt freight yard . Another year later, the production of the second album Gute Musik , which he finished in 2004, began. This included Blumentopf , Marcel Aue , Steer M, Tilmann Jarmer, Delhia, Tim Neuhaus and the Erfurt blues guitarist Jürgen Kerth . In contrast to its very rap-heavy predecessor, it contains significantly more vocal numbers, and English guest contributions were dispensed with. In addition to the typical hip-hop topics, the pleasant and unpleasant consequences of cannabis use are also addressed (e.g. forgetting is so easy ). Like the previous album, Gute Musik also contains skits .

When he moved to Erfurt, his collaboration with his band Curfew suffered, which is why he brought together several Thuringian musicians (mainly the Weimar band StoryPlay ), with whom he performed live as a clueso and band . On January 30, 2005 the single No Bock zu Geh'n was released . The video was produced in-house under the direction of his friend Thomas Wolf / Steer M. With this song he represented Thuringia at the Bundesvision Song Contest on February 12, 2005, where he came in seventh place.

In October 2005, Clueso went on a concert workshop tour through Italy for the Goethe Institute as an ambassador for a young, vibrant Germany . His music serves as a means to carry the poetry of the German language abroad. In total, he and his band performed around 30 concerts and workshops for the Goethe Institute in Italy, Australia, New Zealand and China. Clueso himself has given almost 200 concerts and workshops for the Goethe-Institut in Asia, all of Europe, Australia and North America, mostly with his companion Norman Sinn .

Between its own pieces the orchestra played excerpts from the symphonic suite Metropolis by Steffen Heinze. The collaboration with the STÜBAphilharmonie was continued at the end of 2007. Clueso was the support act for Herbert Grönemeyer's concerts on his 12th tour in May / June 2007. He was recognized by 1live in 2007 with a nomination in the category Best Live Act of the radio audience award 1 Live Krone .

In the German charts, the song took 15th place, bringing Clueso to its first top 20 placement. On May 30th, 2008 his fourth album So much with it and his second single Take along were released. On October 3, 2008, the third single, nobody thinks of you, from the same album followed. In 2009, the collaboration with the Stübaphilharmonie culminated in the double album Clueso and Stübaphilharmonie , released in July 2010. The orchestra's concert tour with Clueso in 2009 was a lavish one . It took the ensemble of 90 musicians, a 30-person crew and technology through Germany - Ludwigsburg, Kassel, Essen, Düsseldorf (Tonhalle), Bochum (EinsliveKrone) and Hamburg (NDR Liebermann Studio). This tour was not only fully self-financed from ticket income, but the above-mentioned live album was also created on it. Clueso opened the 1 Live Krone award ceremony with the orchestra on December 3, 2009. The performance was played entirely live. As in the previous year, Clueso received the 1Live crown as best artist, and he also received the award for best single for the song winner .

2010–2012: Fifth album “An und für sich” and collaboration with Udo Lindenberg and Wolfgang Niedecken

In the summer of 2010, Clueso traveled to Spain to record his new studio album, which was released in the spring of 2011. In October 2010 he appeared again at the Bundesvision Song Contest , this time as a guest musician for the Thuringian contribution by Norman Sinn & Ryo , who took sixth place. In 2011 Clueso u. a. nominated for the MTV Europe Music Award - Best German Act , which however was won by the singer Lena Meyer-Landrut . In the same year he again received the 1 Live Krone as best artist and sat down a. a. against Herbert Grönemeyer.

With the singer Wolfgang Niedecken and his band BAP , Clueso released a single called All the Moments , which was made available for download . 100% of the revenue from the downloads went to Niedecken's Africa projects. The song was first presented at the Echo 2012 . In addition, Clueso gave a laudation at this award ceremony and sang a. a. with Thomas D, Ina Müller and Barbara Schöneberger as the epilogue of the evening Damned long ago .

2012–2014: Own label and sixth album "Stadtrandlichter"

In 2012 he founded the label Text und Ton, named after his first album . The first publication about it, his sixth album, is entitled Stadtrandlichter and was released on September 19, 2014. For this he already organized everything himself with the exception of the concert booking.

“I write a lot of songs and sort an album according to a kind of 'column' of 'inspired' works. There are songs where you immediately know: I don't have to do anything anymore. The music was your friend that day. The 'muse', EVERYTHING was somehow perfect. An album is then based on these songs and a kind of mixtape is created. They then attract others; big songs - like a pillar for an album - attract others. They then stand together and 'fight' with one another, and some simply fall away. That's why a lot of the songs are dropped. "

Clueso at Rock am Ring 2015

The album Stadtrandlichter went straight to number one in the German album charts as the artist's first album . On December 4, 2014, Clueso again won a 1 Live Crown as best artist and thus prevailed against Herbert Grönemeyer, Jan Delay and others. iTunes named Stadttrandlichter iTunes Album of the Year 2014 on December 8, 2014. In January 2015, Stadttrandlichter achieved gold status .

Clueso appeared in the German version of the charity song Do They Know It's Christmas? from Band Aid , which celebrated its world premiere on November 21, 2014 and reached the top of the German single charts.

2015–2018: Separation from the band, seventh album "Neuanfang" and collaboration with the Fantastischen Vier

After a last joint appearance at the Neue DeutschPoeten on September 4, 2015, Clueso announced the separation from his band. In retrospect, he justified this step with the pressure that he felt due to the band's years of dependence on himself and that he no longer felt able to cope with.

For his seventh album and the accompanying tour, Clueso put together a new band, but announced regularly changing line-ups. In October 2016 the album Neuanfang was released , with which he was able to place himself at the top of the German album charts . On December 1st, 2016, Clueso was honored again at the 1 Live Krone , where he was named “Best Artist” for the fifth time.

In March 2018 Die Fantastischen Vier and Clueso released the single together . The song was the official song of the DFB as well as the ARD for the 2018 World Cup and reached third place in the German single charts.

Since 2018: Eighth album "Handgepäck I"

On August 24, 2018 Cluesos eighth studio album was released in hand luggage I , with whom he for the third time chart peak reached in Germany. It is an acoustic album whose 18 songs Clueso collected over seven years while traveling.
