Fritz is part of the ARD radio portfolio , this type of radio program is offered by the responsible state broadcaster in every broadcasting area.

Fritz sees himself as a training radio and offers students the possibility of a six-week editorial internship at any time. In addition, Fritz cooperates with the school radio network and introduces schoolchildren to radio as a medium in holiday workshops.

history

Fritz emerged from the Brandenburg youth radio Rockradio B and the SFB -Jugendradio Radio 4U . On March 1, 1993 in the morning at 6 o'clock the youth radio started its program from the former studios of the GDR radio in the Nalepastraße in Berlin - at that time still a joint production of SFB and ORB. Fritz is regarded as an experiment in one of the first East-West media projects after the fall of the wall .

The forerunner was Radio DT64 until 1992 , which had emerged from a youth program of the GDR radio . The direct DT64 successor Sputnik from MDR were and Fritz then together with the existing since 1986 youth radio Bremen Vier of Radio Bremen pioneer for all subsequent projects of public-service broadcasting, such as N-Joy from NDR , HR XXL , today You FM from hr , DASDING from Südwestrundfunk , 103.7 UnserDing from Saarländischer Rundfunk or 1LIVE from WDR .

At the end of 1993 the Fritz editorial team moved from Nalepastraße to Potsdam- Babelsberg to the new broadcasting studios of the ORB.

The radio station has regularly broadcast the Love Parade in Berlin since 1993 and produced the FritzLoveRadio for the day.

In 1997 there was a change in the executive suite - the previous editor-in-chief Helmut Lehnert became the new head of Radio Brandenburg and prepared the start of broadcasting for Radio Eins. The new Fritz editor-in-chief became Konrad Kuhnt, previously deputy editor-in-chief.

In 1998 the ColumbiaFritz was opened. The former cinema of the allied armed forces became Fritz's new home base in Berlin and the venue for numerous concerts and parties.

Since 1999 Fritz has been received all over the world via a live stream via the website, until 2008 it was still a RealAudio stream, but then the decision was made to use the more popular mp3 format, which is compatible with all playback software.

After the Fuckparade was banned in 2001, Radio Fritz expressed its solidarity and broadcast the music planned for the original Fuckparade at the same time as the demonstration for the right to demonstrate and free choice of the means of demonstration . The organizers of the demonstration called on their participants to bring radios and the like. So the music ban should be circumvented with civil disobedience in an effective way and thus caricatured. Motto: "Radio Fritz makes the fuck parade on the radio". The assembly authority then imposed the so-called radio ban and enforced it on the demo parking lot with a huge police presence.

Fritz has been the radio media partner of the Echo Music Prize since 2001 and reports for the entire ARD. In February 2008, the station received an echo in the “Best Media Partner” category. In 2002, Die Toten Hosen played their first radio concert in the FritzStudios.

Fritz celebrated the tenth anniversary with the book "An, Laut, stark - Das Buch zum Radio" and a big party in Berlin's Columbiahalle and ColumbiaFritz.

In 2003, Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg was founded from the merger of the broadcaster Free Berlin (SFB) and Ostdeutscher Rundfunk Brandenburg (ORB). Fritz had managed this merger ten years earlier. In 2004 the music fair Popkomm moved to Berlin, and Fritz became its radio partner. The station offered a look behind the scenes of the music industry around the clock, invited artists, sent listeners to the concerts and broadcast them live.

The FritzClub in the Postbahnhof at Berlin's Ostbahnhof opened in 2005 and has become one of the most popular locations for concerts and parties in Berlin. The club offers space for around 4,100 guests on over 4,000 m². In the same year Stefan Warbeck took over the editor-in-chief from Fritz. At the international radio exhibition in 2006 Fritz presented his new design. From then on, a musical wave adorns Fritz's face. In 2007 Fritz organized the first “Fritz Night of Talents”, with which the radio has since promoted new talents in the fields of music and speech. At this always sold out event, the audience is the jury.

In the same year Fritz carried out his most extensive program reform to date. New music has been in the foreground ever since. For many previously unknown artists, Fritz offers the first platform to be presented to a large audience. In cooperation with arte, the rbb broadcast the real-time documentary “24h Berlin - A Day in Life” in 2009, exactly one year after it was recorded. Fritz also took part in the project that was awarded the Grimme Prize . In 2010 the first edition of the “ Neue Deutschpoeten ” took place in the Astra Kulturhaus in Friedrichshain . The first Berlin Music Week was opened in 2010 by the ARD youth waves with the presentation of the New Music Awards . Since then Fritz has been reporting on the events, workshops and discussions that take place on and behind the stage in the music world. In the same year Fritz's website was updated. From now on, the timeline determines the image of fritz.de. Here, users can navigate into the past and the future of the program, call up playlists and information on all artists and read, listen to and comment on key topics in the program.

The station's editor-in-chief has been Karen Schmied since July 1, 2012 , who succeeded Stefan Warbeck , who stepped down following the dismissal of KenFM and the resignation of Ken Jebsen .

The radio station was regularly present in Berlin and Brandenburg with the Fritz pub quiz with Tommy Wosch .

Theme melody

The nine-tone signature melody in the jingle is a major variation of the theme from the song Radioactivity by the band Kraftwerk , so it uses the polysemy of this term to suggest a play on words (radioactive - active on the radio).

program

Fritz broadcasts for and with his listeners using daily talk routes that are unique in the entire broadcast area. In the High Noon, current topics are discussed Monday through Friday between noon and 1 p.m. The Blue Moon covers all youth-relevant topics such as education, politics, relationships, leisure time, multimedia, etc., Monday to Friday and Sunday from 10 p.m. to midnight.

At MeinFritz, the listeners create the program themselves Monday to Friday from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. by playing the songs they want by phone or via the Internet.

There is also a fixed slot for them on Sundays between 5 and 8 p.m. On the show "Unsigned", Fritz introduces young musicians and bands who do not yet have a record deal .

In addition, Fritz is networking with new media, such as the Internet. The Trackback program runs every Saturday between 6 and 8 p.m. and deals extensively with topics such as social media , network politics and multimedia jobs.

Compared to other youth radio stations, Fritz had an above-average number of verbal contributions up until the program reform on July 16, 2007. There is also the daily talk show Blue Moon , which listeners can call on a specific topic. In this context, some members of the CCC were guests every last Wednesday of the month (with the exception of December) and present the Chaos Radio until February 2019

On every Wednesday at 8:10 a.m. and 6:10 p.m. Fritz runs the program Neues vom Kangaroo by Marc-Uwe Kling .

In January 2005 the permanent party location changed to the FritzClub in the Postbahnhof at the Ostbahnhof.

Together with the young ARD programs, Fritz has been in charge of organizing the “New Music Award” since 2008 and promoting musical talents. Young bands and musicians can apply to the regional broadcasters every year. The radios will determine their favorites from all submissions. These talents present their live qualities in front of a large audience and a jury of experts in Berlin. In addition to the trophy, the winner will receive music equipment worth 10,000 euros. The winners of the New Music Award in recent years were the Berlin avant electro punks from Bonaparte , the Chemnitz band Kraftklub , the electro duo Captain Capa from Bad Frankenhausen, Jona: S from Gießen and the indie popper tape recorder from Hamburg.
