history

Radio Bremen launched the Bremen Vier Next web channel in 2010. This consisted of a purely automated music rotation, into which word content and messages from Bremen Vier were entered. On December 20, 2012, this web channel was activated in the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen via DAB + (Kanal 7B). This DAB + test operation went into regular operation in February 2013. This is the first time that Radio Bremen participates in the digital terrestrial broadcasting of radio stations.

From spring 2014, Radio Bremen began to work with young creative people from the Bremen scene on a concept for a new cross-media offer for Bremen and to test the first formats in the social networks. The project assignment took place in May 2015. The aim was to implement the new offer for 15 to 25 year olds by mid-2016. Based on the name of the Bremen Vier Next web channel, the new Bremen NEXT offer should be named.

In May 2016, the Broadcasting Council of Radio Bremen determined that the offer described in the Bremen Next telemedia concept complies with the requirements of the State Broadcasting Treaty and is covered by the public service mandate. After examination by the legal supervisory authority of the State of Bremen, Bremen Next was launched in August 2016 with a new online presence, a new corporate design and sound design, as well as a new radio program with moderated daily routes and DJ shows. From August 17, 2016, Bremen NEXT was receivable on the FM frequency 95.6 MHz and DAB + in Bremen. On February 3, 2017, DAB + was activated in Bremerhaven as well as a frequency swap with COSMO . Since then, Bremen NEXT has been broadcasting in Bremen and vice versa on VHF 96.7 MHz and in Bremerhaven on VHF 92.1 MHz.
