Hansawelle (also: Radio Bremen 1 - called Hansawelle ) was the name of the first, until 1952 the only radio program from Radio Bremen . Due to massive funding cuts, the wave had to be stopped on April 30, 2001. It went on with Radio Bremen Melodie in the new program Bremen Eins .

As early as the 1960s, Radio Bremen's Hansawelle was broadcast as a “daily accompanying program” with a high proportion of music. Especially after Radio Bremen 4 was reformatted into a mass wave from 1992 onwards, the program was geared more towards older target groups. In the music sector, the Hansawelle roughly corresponded to the program broadcast by Bremen Eins today. The music selection consisted of melodic pop music, oldies and current titles that matched the rest of the format.

Since the NDR was not allowed to broadcast radio advertising until 1981, the Hansawelle was important for the advertising industry as the largest radio advertising medium in northern Germany.

Transmission duration

A separate program was designed between 5 a.m. and midnight. In the rest of the time, the joint ARD night program ( ARD night express ) was taken over in the first decades , and from the beginning of the 1990s the program of SWF3 and SWR3 from Baden-Baden.

The Hansawelle was broadcast via two VHF transmitters in Bremen (93.8 MHz) and Bremerhaven (89.3 MHz), which have been used by Bremen Eins since 2001. In addition, the program could be heard on Astra Digital Radio in recent years and, until 1999, also on the medium wave frequency 936 kHz.
