ARD night express

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The ARD night express was, in addition to the ARD night concert , the ARD pop night and the ARD info night, the first night program of the ARD and was broadcast from 0:05 a.m. to 4:00 a.m., after the 4 o'clock news the took over ARD radio alarm clock until 6:00 a.m. Some of the participating channels faded out at 5:00 a.m. and started their own program.

On October 4, 2011, the show was discontinued and replaced by the ARD hit night .

history

As early as 1959, there was the first regular joint broadcast of ARD radio with the program Musik up to the early morning , back then from 0:05 a.m. to 5:50 a.m. In the 1980s, then followed a tripartite division of the night program in the shipments until two here : (weekends until three here from 22:30) music into the early hours of 2:00 or 3:00 am to 4:30 Clock and clock radio until 6:00 a.m. ARD night express and ARD radio alarm clocks have existed in their current form since December 23, 1983. At the end of the 1990s, the start of broadcasting was postponed from 10:30 p.m. to midnight.

The end of the ARD night express and its replacement by the ARD hit night from October 2011 were regretted by many, because "a piece of radio history will come to an end".

program

Mainly hits and evergreens were played . There was also news every hour and traffic information every half hour from the entire transmission area. In the ARD radio alarm clock, the "music color" was, in keeping with the intention of being an accompanying TV show, fresher and livelier than in the previous night express.

The program was compiled daily by one of the ARD stations and also broadcast on all other participating ARD stations.

Giving programs

(The weekday denotes the early morning of the respective day)

WDR 4: Rhythm of the Night

In the night from Saturday to Sunday, the program continued until WDR 4 was discontinued : In the program “Rhythmus der Nacht” the focus was on hits and party hits. Special elements of this program were the album tip, the DJ mix (approx. 20 minutes of hits “in the mix”) and the “last minute request” every half hour. The current top 30 of the party and hit charts (DJ hit parade) were always played in the first rhythm of the night of the month. The program was moderated alternately by Silke Liniewski, Dominik Freiberger, Bernd Brüggemann and Peter Kuttler as well as Michael Begasse. The last "Rhythm of the Night" ran on January 14, 2018.

Helmut Hansen

One of the best known and most popular night express presenters over the decades was the former chief spokesman for Hessischer Rundfunk, Helmut Hansen , who presented the program a total of 764 times from Hessischer Rundfunk's Studio H between July 6, 1959 and July 5, 1984. The music compilation for most of the Hansen programs was done by Fred Graefe . Hansen's well-groomed and polished choice of words, the reliable integration of poems into his presentations and a constantly available timetable gave each program a very special touch. Texts by Kästner, Ringelnatz, Endrikat, Heine, Hölty, Tucholsky, Kaleko and others a. also made the “trip” in the night express always a poetic journey of discovery.

According to Hansen, a listener from Berlin coined the excellent term “night expressionists” for the sworn night express community. Helmut Hansen said goodbye to the Night Expressionists with a last trip through the night of July 4th to 5th, 1984, an anniversary broadcast to mark the 25th anniversary of the joint ARD night program.

Special case RBB

In the night from Monday to Tuesday, the ARD night express was always produced by Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (RBB) in Potsdam, but alternated between Antenne Brandenburg and Radio Berlin 88.8, although the night express had not been broadcast there since 2005. Radio Berlin was editorially responsible three times a month, and Antenne Brandenburg once a month. As a rule, the Radio Berlin broadcasts were moderated by Reinhard Meynen, and only “ARD-Nachtexpress vom RBB” could be heard in the jingle. The programs moderated by Meynen always had a special motto, so that, for example, only songs by performers who were born in the respective broadcast month could be heard. His broadcasts on the night of Shrove Monday to Shrove Tuesday, he moderated mostly in the form of a rhymed hand-made speech. With a few exceptions, the antenna-Brandenburg presenter was Detlef Olle, who usually invited an artist to the studio for the program.

Taking programs

Over time, some programs ended their participation in night express and radio alarm clocks, partly to take over another ARD night program, partly to offer their own night program. In the course of time, Norddeutsche Rundfunk and Radio Bremen completely withdrew from the ARD night express (NDR since January 1, 2004), while Mitteldeutsche Rundfunk never took part in the ARD night express. At the end of the day, the ARD night express could only be heard in Berlin via Antenne Brandenburg , which, however, could be received throughout Berlin. Formally, the ARD night express was only broadcast in seven of the sixteen federal states, especially in the south of the republic.

Most recently (2011)

The ARD night express / ARD radio alarm clock was usually on from midnight to 6:00 a.m.

On a public holiday during the week, only Bavaria 1 faded out at 5 a.m.

Special regulation Bavaria 1

Bayern 1 did not fade into the broadcast of the ARD-Nachtexpress at 0:05 a.m. like all other programs, but traffic news was sent first and then the Bavarian anthem , the German national anthem and the European anthem were played. The joint program was activated at around 0:09 am; Bayern 1 broadcast its own program again from 5:00 a.m.
