The ARD Hit Night is the joint night program of the oldie and regional radio programs of the ARD . It started on October 4, 2011 and thus replaced the ARD night express and the ARD radio alarm clock, which had previously been produced since 1959 .

History from 2011 to 2018

Compared to the previous broadcasts ARD-Nachtexpress and ARD-Radiowecker, the number of broadcasting stations decreased significantly from 2011 onwards. The reason for this was the endeavor of the broadcasters to cooperate more intensively in view of the significantly lower number of listeners and thus the range at night.

From October 2011 to January 2018, SR 3 Saarlandwelle produced the show on nights from Sunday to Monday to Friday to Saturday. It was moderated alternately by Nadja Dominik, Dieter Exter, Andree Werner and Frank Hofmann from Saarländischer Rundfunk . Were played oldies and other popular entertainment music from the 1960s to the 1980s. The majority of the music titles played are of international origin, a small percentage from German-language production, mainly from the pop area.

In the night from Saturday to Sunday, the ARD hit night from WDR 4 was designed as the rhythm of the night with hits and party hits. This variant of the program was discontinued on January 14, 2018.

At the top of the hour, the news was taken over by NDR Info .

The following broadcasters took over the program:

Antenne Brandenburg took over the ARD hit night from Monday to Friday only until 5:00 a.m.

Bayern 1 took over the ARD hit night until March 7, 2016 and has been broadcasting its own night program ever since. It did not fade into the broadcast at 0:05 a.m. like all other programs, but first traffic news was broadcast and then the Bavarian anthem , the German national anthem and the European anthem were played. The joint program was activated around 00:09; Bayern 1 was already broadcasting its own daily program from 5 a.m.

As with the ARD night express, Radio Bremen and the Mitteldeutsche Rundfunk did not take part in this joint night program.

Since 2018

Since January 17, 2018, Norddeutsche Rundfunk ( NDR ) has been organizing the ARD hit night on its own. Every four weeks, the program is produced by one of the four NDR regional broadcasting companies ( NDR 90.3 in Hamburg, NDR 1 Niedersachsen in Hanover, NDR 1 Welle Nord in Kiel and NDR 1 Radio MV in Schwerin). The messages from NDR Info are taken over by all connected broadcasters, except for WDR4 and Antenne Brandenburg, which leave the ARD Hitnacht for their own messages and then take them over again.

The following stations take over the program:

The program is offered from 10:10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Antenne Brandenburg, SR3 and the NDR programs broadcast their own daily program from Monday to Friday from 5 a.m. onwards. This means that during the last hour the program can no longer be heard on weekdays on the stations where it is produced, but only on hr4, SWR4 and WDR4.

  1. Frank brass: "Night Express" of WDR 4 on siding. In: The West. September 26, 2011, accessed on September 29, 2011 : “The WDR justifies night coverage on the back burner with the 'low number of listeners'. According to the broadcaster, there is no range data for the time between zero and five o'clock. However, the 'Mass Communication Study' shows that the range of radio at night is just 1.8 percent across Germany. 'In the extrapolation, this corresponds to a potential of 1.24 million listeners,' says WDR spokesman Uwe-Jens Lindner. During the day, the radio range is almost 80 percent. In view of the low response from listeners during the night, the public broadcasters decided to cooperate with each other for some time. "
