hr1 is the name of the first radio program of the Hessischer Rundfunk . hr1 relies on a music mix from five decades with a focus on pop and rock music from the eighties. The program also offers everything important from Hessen, reports from the region and around the world, as well as lifestyle and service topics. Martin Lauer has been the program director since September 1, 2011. His predecessor was Andreas-Peter Weber .

history

The program emerged from the broadcasts of Radio Frankfurt , station of the American military government , which were initially produced on June 1, 1945 in temporary studios in Bad Nauheim . After the Hessian state parliament passed a law on Hessian broadcasting on October 2, 1948 , Radio Frankfurt was officially handed over to German hands on January 28, 1949 by the American military governor, General Lucius D. Clay.

The official name of the program was "First Program" well into the 1980s. The abbreviation hr1 , which has been used in-house for a long time, did not establish itself until the mid-1980s - initially as a supplement to the official name - also in the public image. With the introduction of the hr4 program on October 6, 1986, all hr radio programs were then uniformly named hr1, hr2 , hr3 and hr4.

Until the summer of 2004 the program was still the information radio of Hessischer Rundfunk, but under the claim "hr1 moved" it became a daily wave for the target group of 40 to 60-year-old listeners with a high proportion of music (essentially the top titles from the Years 1965 to 1985). This renovation initially provoked considerable criticism, which was quickly confirmed by the dwindling number of listeners.

Due to the massive audience protests, the long-term program “ Der Tag ”, which was originally to be canceled without replacement, was included in the hr2-kultur program at the same time and has also been repeated in hr-info since July 2009 from 11:05 pm . Another long-standing and well-known program was "Black and White - Music in Color", which dealt with music topics outside the mainstream , initially two hours a day, then three hours from 8 pm to 11 pm and was known beyond the actual broadcast area for its extensive research and reporting.

Was criticized u. a. that the relocation of programs to the programs hr2 and hr-info encourages social selection, because this content, especially political reporting, is only perceived there by a small number of listeners.

Range

The change from information radio to a daily program had a significant impact on the number of listeners. From the survey period MA 2004 (II) to MA 2005 (II) , hr1 lost over 25 percent of its previous listeners. After that, the audience stagnated initially at a low level.

The media analysis (MA) published in March 2007 showed that hr1, based on the measured variable “listeners yesterday, Monday to Friday, 5 a.m. to midnight”, showed 260,000 listeners a day (5.6%) compared to 230,000 in autumn 2006. According to MA 2008/1, however, the range of hr1 increased by leaps and bounds: from 280,000 (MA 2007/2) to 380,000 (8.3%). The media analysis published in March 2013 showed a reach of 216,000 listeners per hour for hr1; in July 2015 - based on a significantly changed survey methodology - 183,000 listeners per hour were reported.

Currently, around 679,000 people tune in to hr1 every day, the program reaches 184,000 listeners in the average hour (as of July 2019, current figures from MA 2019 II).

reception

The program can be received via VHF and cable connection in Hessen and the neighboring areas as well as Europe-wide via DVB-S . Since March 2007, hr1 has also been broadcast via streaming audio in MP3 and WMA format over the Internet.
