Dasding ( proper spelling : DASDING ) is the youth radio program of Südwestrundfunk , which was broadcast for the first time on May 17, 1997. Dasding is a multimedia program and a full-time radio station with no advertising . The radio offer is supplemented by an online offer; From 2002 to 2016 this was done through the weekly television program Dasding.tv , initially on SWR television , later on EinsPlus .
Dasding supports media projects of school classes and schools , e.g. B. School newspapers and school radios , with workshops and professional technology.
The station was started as part of a DAB pilot project as a cooperation between the then independent broadcasters Südwestfunk and Süddeutscher Rundfunk .
Organizationally, Dasding is housed together with SWR3 in the "Pop-Unit" at SWR in Baden-Baden .
program
development
Dasding was founded by Südwestfunk primarily for three reasons:
- The aim was to give the musical youth culture, which was no longer comprehensively represented by the main pop program SWF3 , a new home.
- Young radio presenters should have a professional stage to gain practical experience.
- Dasding should advertise this new technology as an additional offer, which is mainly distributed via DAB, and help it achieve its breakthrough.
In fact, Dasding played a lot of alternative music, especially in the early days. From 2002 the color of the music changed significantly; Charts were increasingly included in the rotation, alternatives pushed back more and more. Today Dasding is a radio station with a typical tight youth radio rotation , the alternative in the program is largely squeezed into the special programs, which, however, as you can see from the program schedules, were expanded during this time.
Despite the extensive offering, DAB could not be helped to achieve a breakthrough. Dasding has also been broadcast on VHF since 2000 . At the end of 2002, Südwestrundfunk significantly reduced the bandwidths of its DAB programs. Since December 14, 2011, the SWR has been broadcasting in the new DAB + standard with improved quality (previously DAB).
Alina Schröder has been Head of Programs since February 1, 2017 . Her predecessor Wolfgang Gushurst became head of the new main department for culture, knowledge, SWR2 at Südwestrundfunk.

Reception possibilities
Dasding was planned in 1997 as a “youth multimedia project” without the intended VHF frequencies. Distribution should only take place via satellite , digital radio and Internet livestream . In 1999, the SWR wanted to switch the program on to FM residual frequencies from its own inventory. However, the SWR State Treaty of 1998 prohibited u. a. According to the opinion of the Baden-Württemberg state government at the time, the distribution of further programs via VHF. It was not until 2000 that the Südwestrundfunk prevailed in its opinion and in April 2000, one day after the start of the private national wave bigFM in Baden-Württemberg, it was able to switch Dasding to a few city frequencies, which previously only broadcast an evening foreign language program on ARD. Later, further frequencies for the program could be coordinated and activated, but nationwide reception will not be possible via VHF in the foreseeable future.
In 2012, the program was fed into all cable networks in Rhineland-Palatinate and Baden-Württemberg and also broadcast via DAB +, DVB-S and DVB-C .
