Localization of Baden-Württemberg in Germany

The transmitter Bad Mergentheim (Löffelstelzen) is a basic network transmitter of the Südwestrundfunk (formerly the Süddeutscher Rundfunk ) for radio. It is located in a forest, about one kilometer west of the center of the Bad Mergentheim district of Löffelstelzen . A 179 meter high reinforced concrete tower with an antenna attached is used as the antenna carrier.

From here are Bad Mergentheim , the Main-Tauber-Kreis and parts of the Neckar-Odenwald district , the Hohenlohe and district Schwäbisch Hall supplied.

Originally, this transmission system used a guyed transmission mast as the antenna carrier, which also served as a transmission antenna for the medium wave frequency 1413 kHz. In 1972 this was replaced by a 165 meter high concrete tower with a trap and a long wire antenna for medium wave . On January 19, 1989, the frequency of the medium wave transmitter was changed from 1413 kHz to 711 kHz, which increased the range of the 3 kW transmitter used due to the better ground wave propagation.

From 1998 to 2000, this tower was replaced by a new transmission tower, 179 meters high and built 200 meters to the west, which has no transmission antenna for medium wave. On June 1, 1999, the medium-wave transmitter was switched off and on April 10, 2001, the old transmission tower was demolished by blowing up. On June 30, 2009, analog television was switched off and DVB-T was activated.

Due to the nationwide conversion of aerial television to DVB-T2, TV broadcasting was completely stopped on October 24, 2018. The TV is supplied by the on DVB-T2 upgraded ground network stations Aalen .
