Radio Ton is a private radio station based in Heilbronn . The transmission area extends in Baden-Württemberg over the administrative district of Stuttgart and the north of the administrative district of Tübingen as well as in Bavaria over parts of Lower Franconia and Swabia .

history

Radio Ton was founded in 1987 under the name Radio Regional in Heilbronn. Radio Ton went on air for the first time on November 25, 1987 with the song Laguna d'amor by the Kraichgau band Fernando Express . After the merger with the Bad Mergentheim radio station Radio TON (TON stood for the Tauber, Odenwald, Neckar broadcasting area) in 1994, the station was called Radio Ton Regional.

With the license period starting in 2003, the station was also awarded the contract for the local broadcasting area of Ostwuerttemberg, which had previously been the broadcasting area for Radio Komma 1, from the Baden-Württemberg State Office for Communication . In May 2003 Radio Ton bought Neckar-Alb-Radio in Reutlingen. Since then, Radio Ton, as Baden-Württemberg's largest local station network, has been broadcasting a locally oriented program with separately broadcast news for the individual regions in the areas L9 Ostwürttemberg and L10 Heilbronn-Franken. The core target group is between 30 and 55 years of age. In terms of music, the family broadcaster offers a broad program from the 1970s to the present day. The musical focus is on songs from the 1980s.

In the beginning, the team consisted of 25 employees. Today there are around 80 employees who set up a program for several hundred thousand listeners at several locations every day.

The broadcaster has studios in Heilbronn and Aalen to provide listeners with regional information.

Since 2013, Radio Ton has been broadcasting, according to its own statements, 24 hours without repetition and with a new sound design.

On July 22, 2014, the LFK media council decided to give Radio Ton the VHF frequencies in the Reutlingen, Tübingen and Zollernalb districts elsewhere. The Neckaralb Live program has been available in this region since January 1, 2016 .
