Alligatoah (2015)

Alligatoah (born September 28, 1989 in Langen ; bourgeois Lukas Strobel ; also Die Terroristen ) is a German rapper , singer , guitarist , producer , composer and songwriter . Especially in the early stages of his work, the name Alligatoah also stood for a hip-hop band that consists of the two fictional characters Kaliba 69 ( rapper ) and DJ Deagle ( producer ), whose roles Strobel takes on and plays himself.

life and career

Alligatoah (2015)

Lukas Strobel grew up in Neuenwalde in Lower Saxony near Bremerhaven as the son of a dancer and an actor. During his school days he produced a number of short films from 2003 and won the prize money of 750 euros at a youth film festival. He received guitar lessons for a number of years, but eventually gave up in favor of his filmmaking. At the beginning of his musical career he produced his music videos himself and is still involved in the production today.

While punk was very popular in his personal environment , Strobel was particularly enthusiastic about Nu Metal and later also about German Battlerap , such as Aggro Berlin made it. He also liked and often listened to the music of German songwriters. Finally, he began to record rap music himself and founded the fictional group Alligatoah made up of two alter egos on April 10, 2006, at the age of 16 , in order to separate his function as lyricist and rapper (Kaliba 69) and beat producer (DJ Deagle) . According to his own statement, he also “didn't want to be so alone anymore” when creating his songs. He gave himself the name Alligatoah according to his own statement for no particular reason. He himself doesn't think the name is a good one, but is happy about it, because that way he could complain about it.

In 2006 he released his first album ATTNTAAT , which deals with religious fanaticism and shaped the image of his fictional characters as Taliban terrorists. In the same year it followed Schlaftabletten, Rotwein Part I , which, like the following parts of this series, he called "Mixtape", although it is not a compilation of foreign material, but only contains his own compositions. The term "Mixtape" was intended to distinguish these systemless compilations of fun, often silly and experimental tracks from his other albums, which deal with overarching themes. He made both albums available for free download, as well as the music film Goldfieber , which was released in August . In 2007, sleeping pills followed , red wine part II . In March 2008 Alligatoah signed a contract with rappers.in . On December 19 of that year he released the album In God's Name there , which also had religious fanaticism on the subject. This was named demo of the month in the January / February issue of Juice . Alligatoah also contributed a Juice Exclusive track for the issue.

After graduating from high school, he moved to Berlin and completed a school education as a media designer for image and sound. In 2011 he published sleeping pills, red wine part III at rappers.in . In August of the same year, Alligatoah switched to the Trailerpark label . Timi Hendrix , member of the group Pimpulsiv under contract with Trailerpark, heard about Alligatoah through the song Make Names and made contact with the label. In December 2011 he released the mixtape sequel Schlaftabletten, Rotwein Teil IV on his new label . From September 2011 to March 2012 he toured with Pimpulsiv, Sudden and DNP on the PeppNoseDays tour through Germany. Between the individual appearances, Alligatoah supported the hip-hop formation KIZ together with Trailerpark as the opening act.

Alligatoah at the Kosmonaut Festival 2014

In August 2013 Alligatoah released his third album Triebwerke , which entered the album charts at number one and has a love of the main topic. The album was awarded a gold record in 2014, and the single, Willst Du , which was extracted from it, has achieved platinum status. In 2014 Alligatoah was nominated for the 1LIVE crown in the category Best Hip-Hop Act .

In September 2014, a remix of his song Willst Du was released by the German DJ and producer Robin Schulz , who had previously reached number one in the German single charts with his remixes for the songs Waves and Prayer in C. The version made it into the German iTunes charts a few hours after it was released.

On August 31, 2015, Alligatoah announced its fourth album Music Is Not a Solution , which was released on November 27, 2015. His songs address various problem areas of social coexistence. The music videos for the titles Vorgericht, Lass Lie and Denk an die Kinder were published on YouTube before the album was released. One day before the publication, Strobel also put the eponymous title Music is No Solution as a lyric video on YouTube. On December 3rd of the same year he won the 1LIVE crown in the category Best Hip-Hop Act .

Alligatoah at Rock im Park 2016

In February 2016, Alligatoah began his new tour called "Himmelfahrtskommando", during which he stopped in a total of eleven German cities as well as in Zurich , Graz and Vienna . He was accompanied by BattleBoi Basti , and the Kreuzberg rapper BRKN also served as a preliminary act. On April 5th, Alligatoah again reached the mark of 100,000 sales with his album "Musik ist kein Solution" and received another gold award for it.

On September 14, 2018, Strobel's fifth regular studio album was released with Schlaftabletten, Rotwein V. In contrast to the previous releases of the sleeping tablets, red wine series ( StRw for short ), Strobel classifies them as a full-fledged album. Alli-Alligatoah entered the German charts at number 85 as the first single . The song leg breaking includes a featuring by Felix Kummer , the lead singer of the Chemnitz music group Kraftklub . The music video for I Need A Face was shot with Max Giermann . At the same time as the regular album, a cover album was released under the title Fremde Tungen, in which ten songs from different musical areas were acoustically interpreted by Strobel. The covered performers include Slipknot , Rolf Zuckowski , Rammstein , Die 3. Generation , Heinz Erhardt , Sia , Hannes Wader and Matt Monro .

In January 2019 he joined the How-home on tour, named after the Rhapsody on Strw V . Here he played the song Do not wake for the first time . He also performed at the New Fall Festival in the Tonhalle Düsseldorf together with the Gregor threshold brook sextet that accompanied him acoustically.

For 2020, the tour Like Home Open Air was announced, which was to stop in Rostock , Dresden , Erfurt , Ludwigsburg and Osnabrück , but was postponed to 2021 due to the corona pandemic. In April 2020, against the backdrop of the corona pandemic, Alligatoah spontaneously announced two concerts with the title "Autoimmun" in a Düsseldorf drive-in cinema, which were streamed live by the TV station arte . Further appearances in drive-in cinemas for 2020 were gradually announced for various major German cities.

style

Alligatoah often uses the style of battle rap . "For me, battling was always a tool, I used battle to tell a story," he said in an interview in 2012. While great importance is attached to being as authentic and real as possible in this scene, he describes himself as Acting rapper .

Alligatoah often uses sung parts and supports his songs with the guitar. He often uses quotes or music reminiscent of Stanley Kubrick 's film A Clockwork Orange . For example, the intro track to Sleeping Pills, Red Wine Part I is accompanied by the theme music by Uhrwerk Orange. The intro track Singing in the Rain on the album ATTNTAAT recalls the beginning of the scene in which Alex DeLarge breaks into a house and sings Singin 'in the Rain while a woman is raped . In addition, Alligatoah uses the term "in-out game" in one track, which Alex DeLarge uses as a synonym for sexual intercourse.
