Triebwerke is the third album by the German hip-hop artist Alligatoah . It was released on August 2, 2013 via the German hip-hop label Trailerpark .

Cover

A separate cover was created for each version. On the normal version, Alligatoah can be seen naked while looking at various self-painted portraits from behind. The Premium Edition shows a modification of the Mona Lisa with Alligatoah's face. The Amazon.de box, marked as Limited Premium Edition, shows a photo of Alligatoah with his ear cut off (an allusion to Vincent van Gogh ), who hands the viewer of the cover a heart-shaped ring box with that very ear. The original cover had to be censored on Facebook because you could see part of the scrotum .

Track list

The album was released in three versions. On the one hand as a standard version and as a premium version with the acoustic album Stromausfall, which was recorded completely with an acoustic guitar (guest: Timi Hendrix ). Several guests can be heard on Triebwerke . Trailerpark colleague Timi Hendrix and rapper Shneezin from the 257ers support him with the song Wunderschöne Frau . Prince Pi can be heard on Thanksgiving . Another guest is Battleboi Basti , who, contrary to his image at the time as a 12-year-old student, raps with Rabenväter with a normal voice.

Music style and lyrics

Alligatoah with guitar at the Rockem Festival 2013 in Neunkirchen

Alligatoah can be heard on the album with both a normal singing voice and rap vocals. The music not only consists of the typical hip-hop beats, but is supported by acoustic and electric guitars . Flutes can also be heard. The lyrics on the album are mostly about love and related issues like jealousy and gender identity.

In this album, too, Alligatoah makes use of many stylistic devices , such as linguistic images . The lyrics are very sarcastic and ironic , sometimes extremely malicious. These passages, however, are affectionately presented, Phil Weichert from rap.de called them "sugar-sweet", so that this malevolence can only be recognized when listening closely. The album was compared in RTL -Nachrichten Punkt 12 and RTL 2 News with the often very sarcastic love songs by Die Ärzte . In its "Funeral Song", the choir sings "Emotional Manipulation - Probably I'm an Illuminati" when the song is played backwards.

criticism

Phil Weichert from Rap.de stated that the album was “the perfect mix of a soft, sugar-soft sound and bitter humor”. His conclusion is:

"With" Triebwerke "Alligatoah has once again put down an extremely entertaining, humorous album that surprises and convinces with its sound. The rapper and singer is incredibly versatile and feels at home on scruffy electric guitars as well as on wobbling electro beats or calm sounds and crazy circus sounds. Provocation can sound so beautiful. Alligatoah has thus achieved the best work from Trailerpark to date. Chapeau. "

- Phil Weichert : Rap.de

Laut.de awarded four out of five stars. Dani Fromm referred to the album as

“He sings better than many others, as long as you can put up with his tendency to overact. Musically, in terms of content and design, it is bursting with inventiveness. He treacherously packs his biting humor, which is by no means compliant with coffee parties, in such miserably catchy tracks that haunt you for weeks and months. "

success

The limited Amazon box was sold out four weeks before the release due to the pre-orders. RTL 2 News announced on August 6, 2013 that the album would reach number 1 in the album charts. On August 12, 2013 this thesis was officially confirmed by Media Control. Triebwerke was thus the first album from Trailerpark to reach number 1 on the German album charts. The first single memorial song came in Germany in the top 100 of the single charts. The second single Willst du was able to place itself in the top 20 of the charts in Germany and Austria and reached gold status in January 2014 with more than 150,000 units sold. In May 2014, according to Alligatoah, the entire album also reached gold status.
