Life

Private

Friedrich Kautz attended the basic old-language grammar school in Steglitz . He grew up in Schlachtensee , one of the most expensive locations in Zehlendorf. Despite the expensive location, he describes his original family situation as poor, since his parents came to Germany as refugees. Since 1998 he has also appeared occasionally in the German hip-hop scene under the pseudonyms Doc Murdock , Doc Mabuse , Slick Spingo and Prinz Porno One . He later called himself Prinz Porno for a long time , which corresponded to his stage name as a graffiti sprayer.

In addition to his musical engagement, Kautz studied communication design at the Berlin-Weißensee School of Art from 2002 to 2008 . Prince Pi designs most of his artwork himself.

In June 2009 Friedrich Kautz became the father of a daughter. In the summer of 2015 he became the father of a son. His third child, a daughter, was born in August 2020.

In 1998 Pi was represented with a song on the scrapbook Berlin No. 1 Vol.1 under his old artist name Prinz Porno . In 1998 his album Porno Privat, which was actually only intended as a private copy for acquaintances and friends and of which there were only twelve copies, reached the Internet in a previously unknown way (according to him). On it was the track Keine Liebe , which made him known in the Berlin rap scene.

In 2000 the tape An der Front was released. The first CD album, WortShots, followed a year later . In addition, Prinz Pi released several LPs with Mix Master Müller under the pseudonym Social Contacts ( The Only Alternative and The Inclined Plane of Consciousness ).

From 2002 to 2004, Prinz Pi was under contract with the Berlin underground label Royal Bunker . There he was represented, among other things, as a member of the formations Promolle and Panz Dominanz , which in turn arose from the Beatfabrik , which produced numerous publications.

In 2001 he published the EP Radium as a free download on the Royal Bunker website . From this EP the 2002 released album Radium Reaction developed . Other projects followed, such as the black book tape 2: Jung, Schön und Stylisch, which was also published in 2002 , until Pi announced his temporary exit from the rap business in 2004. Prince Pi temporarily ended his Royal Bunker co-op with the collaboration album 1st League, which arose from the collaboration with his colleague Separate . The album was released on separate label Buckwheats Music .

In February 2005, Prince Pi's return followed with the mixtape Guess Who's Back on the Streets . At the beginning of May 2005, Pi's solo album Teenage Mutant Horror Show was released, which was again released on the Mainz label Buckwheats Music , was completely written within two weeks and arose from a bet with Separate. The album includes, among other things, 13 productions from the album Rap Art War by Kinder des Zorns (Casper, Separate, Fadee & Abroo), which, however, were recorded with new lyrics by Prinz Porno. After this publication he was renamed Prinz Pi, because he was tired of getting the CDs returned unopened from superficial magazines, because they “didn't want another CD from one of these porn rappers”.

On the Splash! -Festival 2005 Pi presented his street album Time is Money and performed with Kid Kobra and Smexer on the MZEE .com stage. On November 17, 2005, a 'Best of' album followed with Written History (1998–2005) . In addition to three remixes, there are also two completely new tracks on the CD.

It was released in a standard version with two CDs and a limited edition with 3 CDs. While there are 22 songs on the first CD, there are 30 pieces on the second CD, named Herr der Dinge , which with one exception manage without electronically produced music and are completely orchestrated. Based on heroic epics in the style of Lord of the Rings or the Nibelungenlied , Pi packs the story of German rap into one big story.

On February 9, 2007 the DVD + street album Das PrinzIP Prinz PI was released . The DVD contains material such as tour reports and live excerpts from the "not-on-the-tour", the Splash! 2006 in Chemnitz as well as humorous clips like “Crossgolf” with Frank Zander and more. His new album Neopunk was released on October 24, 2008 . There are two variants of this, a normal version and the deluxe version, with four bonus titles. In February 2018, Prince Pi said in the TV show Kulturzeit of the TV channel 3sat : "Actually, I would have much preferred to be a writer. But because nowadays almost nobody writes sensibly and people read less and less books and books have less and less impact have life. […] I thought to myself: Musician, you can achieve more. " In the same Kulturzeit interview, Prince Pi explained metaphorically: "I think pathos is a spice. It's a bit like glutamate: It just brings out the ingredients better. But you can't put in too much, because then it'll be cheap and kitschy. But you can put a little bit of it in, because then it just tastes better. " In addition, Prince Pi described: "You know, people say that calendar sayings are shallow. [...] Most of the people who later make it to calendar sayings are of relatively great thinkers."

He has had his own fashion brand Keine Liebe Berlin at DefShop since 2019 . On February 14, 2020, he released a new Prinz Pi album True Legends and a new Prinz porn album With Distance. He has had his own podcast Pi's Podcast on Spotify since February 24, 2020 .

His texts mainly deal with socially critical issues, conspiracy theories and social trends. Another theme of his early work was life in the jet set . In the meantime, Prince Pi reflects in his texts the phases of life at the respective points in time at which the works were created. The central motifs emerge - in a socially critical manner - death and coping with it, love and its failure as well as the emergence and decay of friendship. He describes himself as "the best German theme rapper". In his often ironic texts he uses double and triple rhymes .

criticism

In 2016, Prince Pi appeared on television in a white sweater with the logo of the Palestinian development aid organization Sharek Youth Foundation and rapped the lines I have a microscope, give me your phone / Like Ahmadinejad, I do a nuclear fusion / Then you get a telescope - I have a microphone / [...] Konstantin Nowotny ( Die Welt ) criticized this reference to the former Iranian president, who was criticized for his anti-Israel rhetoric, Holocaust denial and nuclear plans, as well as the fact that the organization promoted by Prince Pi in its press publications by Israeli "Aggression" and a "siege" of the Gaza Strip speak. The first line of the song Schläferstündchen on the album Neopunk (2008) also met with criticism, in connection with the Abu Ghraib torture scandal of “Prince Pi, sympathy for Hezbollah ”, a terrorist organization whose goal is the destruction of Israel is. In December 2014, Prince Pi described the USA in a Facebook post as the "Satan of the West"; In 2017 he said in an interview that he was previously heavily influenced by the Zeitgeist documentaries by director Peter Joseph . According to the museologist Ann-Christin Wachtel, Prince Pi mixes biographical motifs in his songs with “a shortened criticism of capitalism , end-time fantasies and various conspiracy myths ”, he also uses anti-Americanism and anti-Semitic codes.
