Peter Joseph (* 1979 in Winston-Salem , North Carolina ) is an American director of socially critical and partly conspiracy theoretic films. He has kept his full real name a secret since the release of the film Zeitgeist .

Life

Joseph studied music in North Carolina and later moved to New York City , where he initially worked in the advertising industry and as a stockbroker . His father worked for the Post Office (USPS) , his mother as a social worker .

In 2007 he wrote and produced his first film Zeitgeist , which he also directed. The film that u. a. Doubts about the historical existence of Jesus and conspiracy theories as of September 11, 2001 , he made available on the Internet free of charge. It is said to have been seen by over 100 million people so far.

His second film Zeitgeist: Addendum , which he also published on the Internet in 2008, is about the global financial system and the abolition of money as a way to a better world. He is promoting the Venus project by the American industrial designer and inventor Jacque Fresco . To make this project a reality, Peter Joseph founded the Zeitgeist movement in 2009 . This grassroots movement organizes, among other things, conferences at which Peter Joseph appears as a speaker.

In his third film Zeitgeist: Moving Forward from 2011, Peter Joseph examines questions of anthropology , neurology and economics and again promotes Fresco's Venus project. Robert Sapolsky , Richard G. Wilkinson , James Gilligan , John McMurty, Michael C. Ruppert , Max Keizer , Jacque Fresco , Adrian Bowyer , Berok Khoshnevis, Roxanne Meadows, Colin Campell, Jeremy Gilbert-Rolfe, and Gabor Maté were interviewed in these films . According to the Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazin, Gabor Maté is said not to have known the exact context in which his statements would be placed.

The two more recent Zeitgeist films are distributed free of charge via BitTorrent and the official YouTube channel of the “The Zeitgeist Movement” project. There is also the option of purchasing the films on DVD at a cost-covering price. Peter Joseph emphasizes the fact that there is no intention of making a profit.
