Zeitgeist: Addendum

Zeitgeist: Moving Forward is a 2011 documentary by the American director Peter Joseph . After Zeitgeist (2007) and Zeitgeist: Addendum (2008), it is the third full- length film in the series. The film was published on the YouTube video portal and has been viewed 25 million times to date (as of October 2019).

content

The third film builds on the overall picture begun in the two previous films, which undertakes a comprehensive attempt to grasp today's world in its economic and social wholeness from the perspective of the USA .

Part I - The nature of man

The third film begins with the topic of epigenetics and the relativization of prejudices regarding genetic “strain”. He cites the example that a genetically "weaker" living being easily compensates for this "disadvantage" if it is stimulated more in this area than a genetically more favored living being that is neglected in this area. He argues that a lot of violence can be traced back to child neglect or trauma and that, in return, talent is more often to be found in children who have been touched and cared for a lot.

Part II - Social Pathology

Furthermore, the film goes into the financial sector and describes the devastating effects of a de-emotionalized speculation industry on the physical world, more precisely, the people who have to suffer from the economic crisis that occurs as a result of speculation .

Part III - Project Earth

Towards the end, the film deals with an alternative to the capitalist - monetary "system" and introduces the visionary Jacque Fresco , who founded the concept of the resource-based economy, the Venus Project . This represents a more or less “holistic” approach, which, however, focuses on a new scientifically based and globally coordinated economy. The author makes it clear that he does not want to be assigned to communism , socialism or any other " -ism ", and criticizes the current mentality of most people who want to put everyone in a "drawer". He cites the extreme example of the USA, in which it would immediately be assumed that one belongs to the camp associated as the only alternative if one does not belong to the other:

Part IV - The Ascent

"If you are not a Republican then you must be a Democrat . If you are not a Christian , then you might be a Satanist . ”-“ If you are not a Republican, then you have to be a Democrat. If you are not a Christian, you are probably a Satanist. "

With this quote it is said in the film that people like to give the population a choice so that they can make their own decisions.

It also presents a scenario of overthrowing current governments in which the population withdraws all their money from their accounts. There are global demonstrations and governments are giving in. After that, the cash is piled up in huge towers in front of the central banks worldwide.

shape

The film uses the means of documentary film . Like its two predecessors, it combines animated scenes with texts underlaid with strong symbolic images. New in “Zeitgeist: Moving Forward” are the interviews that Peter Joseph conducted with scientists, including the biologist Robert Sapolsky , the sociologist Richard G. Wilkinson and the geologist Colin J. Campbell . The physician Gabor Maté received a fee of $ 1,500 for the interview. However, the author does not prove this himself.
