Richard G. Wilkinson
Richard Gerald Wilkinson (* 1943 ) is a British health scientist and emeritus professor .
Life
Wilkinson studied economic history at the London School of Economics and Political Science . After completing his studies, he devoted himself to epidemiology . He is professor emeritus for social epidemiology at the University of Nottingham and honorary professor at University College London . He was also a visiting professor at the University of York . Wilkinson achieved great fame when he and Kate Pickett published the book The spirit level (German title: "Equality is happiness") in 2009, in which they examined a connection between social income inequality and social problems (such as crime , violence , obesity , substance abuse , Level of education , life expectancy, etc.). Together with Pickett and Bill Kerry, he founded the Equality Trust in the same year , which deals with the education about the consequences of inequality and possible measures to reduce it.
