Wolfgang Kersting (born July 10, 1946 in Osnabrück ) is a German philosopher .

Life

Wolfgang Kersting studied philosophy, German literature and history in Göttingen and Hanover , received his doctorate in 1974 with a study on ethics in Hegel's "Phenomenology of Spirit" at the University of Hanover and completed his habilitation in 1982 on Immanuel Kant's legal philosophy . Before he became professor of philosophy at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel in 1993 , he taught in Hanover, Marburg , Göttingen, Lüneburg and Munich . In 2011 Kersting retired.

His research focus is political philosophy . He mainly deals with the topics of the welfare state , justice and social order. He is also known for his examination of the modern contract theory of John Rawls . In 2010, Kersting was awarded the Corine for the book Defense of Liberalism . In 2012 he received the Freedom Prize from the Friedrich Naumann Foundation .
