Mudi , bourgeois Mahmoud Mouhamed (born December 19, 1992 in Berlin ) is a German rapper .

biography

Mudi grew up in Berlin-Schöneberg as the son of a Kurdish father from Turkey and an Arab mother from Lebanon who fled to Germany as a result of the Lebanese civil war . Mudi came to music through artists like Bushido and Kool Savas . At a young age he rapped the lyrics. When he realized that he could better express feelings in songs, he wrote his first lyrics. He wrote his first song for his mother.

At the age of 15 he was supported by his cousin Hamudi, who later co-produced albums such as therapy based on the album by Raf Camora or Rebell for no reason by Prince Pi . Mudi wrote lyrics and rapped on beats from his cousin, which he posted on YouTube . Mudi got a contract with the label The Royals , which Hamudi had founded. In 2010 the video wing appeared on aggro.tv on YouTube, which made Mudi known to a larger audience. Contrary to the usual lyrics in the series Halt die Fresse, this was a song that spoke out against war and for peace. He then published some featurings with PA Sports , Prince Pi and Raf Camora, but otherwise it remained quiet about him.

In 2014, a self-produced free album called Zeitachse was released . Although by then he had actually finished his music career, he later signed a contract with Virgin Records . There his album Hayat was released , which reached number 28 in the German charts. PA Sports , Prinz Pi and RAF Camora were represented as feature guests . The album title means "life". In 2017 the third album "Sabr" followed.

Music genre

Initially influenced by early German gangsta rap in the style of Kool Savas and Bushido , Mudi began to copy their texts and attitudes. So he rapped about life in social housing in Berlin-Schöneberg and life on the street. But then he noticed that this was not his own identity and that he wanted to express something different with his art. He felt more mature and began to incorporate influences from Arabic music into his songs. In doing so, his texts changed to the soulful, ballad-like. He himself described his style as "Arabesk Rap". In doing so, he takes up other topics; instead of the violence on the street, his songs are about growing up, about Islam and the Koran , ballads about people who were or are close to him and about broken hearts. Mudi, however, often raps about war and suffering, as he heard about the Lebanon war from his family environment .
