The transmitter Ulm-Kuhberg is a basic network transmitter of the Südwestrundfunk (formerly the Süddeutscher Rundfunk ) for radio. It is located on the Oberer Kuhberg, about three kilometers southwest of downtown Ulm. A guyed tubular steel mast is used as the antenna carrier. The transmitter location on the Kuhberg was put into operation in 1960 as a replacement for a transmitter built in 1950 in the northeast tower of Wilhelmsburg , which broadcast the 2nd SDR program with a power of 250 watts.
From here to Ulm , the Alb-Donau district of parts and the district Biberach in Baden-Württemberg and the districts Neu-Ulm and Günzburg supplies in Bavaria.
From the end of September 2013, the transmission mast was raised in order to transmit the existing digital radio muxes at a higher output and to switch the DAB muxes of the Bavarian broadcasting company to channel 11D. Until then, the total height was 87 meters.
On December 11, 2013, Bayerischer Rundfunk put the VHF frequencies 96.3 MHz for Bavaria 2 and 107.4 MHz for B5 into operation, primarily to close the reception gaps in the Neu-Ulm area. A broadcast of Bayern 1 and BR-Klassik from this location is not planned for the time being. Bayern 3 has been broadcast from this station since 2005.
