history

When it started broadcasting in April 1995, the program in Bavaria was only broadcast via the DAB digital radio . But the station was also present in the first tests as part of the DAB pilot project last year. On October 18, 1999, the station went into regular operation. Reception via satellite was only made possible later . Since April 2000 Rockantenne is in large parts of Bavaria via cable (officially on April 2, 2002) and, since 1 April 2002 in the greater Augsburg on the FM - frequency to receive 87.9 MHz after this frequency of the Augsburg local radio station Radio Kö 87.9 became free due to discontinuation of broadcasting due to inefficiency. On January 21, 2011, Rock Antenne acquired a majority stake in Radio Hitwelle - the five transmitter locations north and east of Munich created the transmitters Rock Antenne Erding , Freising , Ebersberg , Moosinning and Isen . From August 1, 2017, Rock Antenne in Baden-Württemberg was awarded a capacity in the state-wide DAB block 11B of Digital Radio Südwest , and the station was activated on December 1, 2017. In addition, the Rock Antenne in Munich received from September 1, 2017 the VHF frequency 94.5 MHz formerly used by M94.5 as support frequency. The stake in the transmitter locations north and east of Munich was sold to Amperwelle ( Top FM ).

In December 2017, Rock Antenne took over 49% of the shares in the Hamburg radio station Alsterradio . Alsterradio ceased broadcasting on April 1, 2018. On April 9, 2018, Rock Antenne Hamburg took over the broadcasting slot from Alsterradio.

Since July 2018, the program can also be received in Hessen via DAB + . In Austria , at the same time as Rock Antenne Österreich , its own DAB program was launched and has been broadcast nationwide in Bundesmux 5B since May 28, 2019.

About a month later, Berlin and Brandenburg followed with new DAB + channels.

With the allocation of new VHF frequencies in Hesse , Rock Antenne can also be received at the Gießen , Kassel , Marburg and Wetzlar locations from mid-2019 .

According to media analysis Audio 2020 II, 233,000 people listen to the station per average hour (6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday - Friday). The daily reach (Monday - Friday) is 737,000 listeners.

Technical projects

The broadcaster took part in a pilot project for digital multimedia broadcasting in the Regensburg area . A radio program was broadcast that was younger in terms of music than the Rock Antenne program. There was also a live stream with additional information or music clips. The pilot project could be received on specially distributed cell phones in the Regensburg area. There were 200 devices.

In December 2017, Rock Antenne GmbH & Co. KG took over 49% of the shares in Alsterradio and in the course of this took over all frequencies, broadcasting slots and web offers as well as part of the Alsterradio workforce.

On April 9, 2018 at 5:00 a.m., the Rock Antenne Hamburg offshoot officially started broadcasting as the successor to Alsterradio . Alsterradio stopped broadcasting live on April 1, 2018. In the run-up to the takeover, Alsterradio's music and promotions were adapted to the Rock Antenne program, and since April 1, 2018, the Rock Antenne program has been broadcast without moderation and with shortened messages and announcements about the start of Rock Antenne Hamburg. It is hoped that the takeover will increase ratings, after Alsterradio has massively lost listeners since 2014 due to many profile and personnel changes.
