alsterradio (also: 106! 8 , Alster-Radio , alster radio ; complete: The NEUE alster radio 106! 8 rock'n pop , order changing) was a private radio station for Hamburg and the surrounding area until spring 2018 . The station was operated by alster radio GmbH, the sole owner was NWZ Funk- und Fernsehen GmbH, which in turn was a 100% subsidiary of Nordwest-Zeitung . Alsterradio recently played a mixture of classic rock , rock and pop music .

Reception area

The transmitter could be received on the frequency 106.8 MHz, with 40 kW from the transmitter Rahlstedt-Höltigbaum in the north-east of Hamburg. The transmission area extended in a radius of approx. 100 km to the federal states of Lower Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein as well as to western Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . In addition, Alsterradio had a transmitter near Cuxhaven (Otterndorf, 93.6 MHz 2 kW) to supply the Neuwerk island, which belongs to Hamburg . The window program 917xfm was broadcast on its own city frequency for downtown Hamburg on 91.7 MHz with 0.04 kW .

Analog cable frequency in Hamburg was 96.75 MHz. The station was not broadcast on Kabel Deutschland's digital cable network. (As of August 22, 2011)

Alsterradio could also be received worldwide via web radio.

history

Alsterradio emerged in 1991 from the private broadcaster Radio 107 , which had broadcast on the 106.8 MHz frequency since 1987.

Until it was restructured in 1999, the private radio station was a hit station. After switching to a younger target group, audience ratings initially fell. The sister station AllRock could only be received digitally and stopped broadcasting on November 30, 2005.

Since 2006 106! 8 has also been the media partner of FC St. Pauli . In addition, the broadcaster had taken on the sponsorship of the amateur club DSC Hanseat , whose games were reported live. Alsterradio was also the media partner of the indoor soccer tournament Salzbrenner Cup , since 2007 media partner of the Hamburg Blue Devils (football) and since 2011 media partner of the Hamburg Freezers (ice hockey).

With a 7.9% market share, alster radio 106! 8 was the No. 2 private Hamburg radio station in the Hamburg metropolitan area (widest audience: 807,000, listeners per day: 412,000).

Since January 2012 Uwe Schneider has been managing director of the radio. On July 25, 2012, the broadcaster announced that it had separated by mutual agreement. The reason was differences about the 'further strategic direction of Alsterradio 106! 8'.

In October 2015, the managing directors of alster radio stated in an open letter that their station was threatened, as a regulation of the market for the operation of VHF transmitters implemented by the Federal Network Agency would almost triple the distribution costs of alster radio. The reason for this is a possibly abusive pricing of the Deutsche Telekom AG or its subsidiary DFMG .

In December 2017, Rock Antenne GmbH & Co. KG took over 49% of the shares in Alsterradio and in the course of this took over all frequencies, broadcasting slots and web offers as well as part of the Alsterradio workforce. On April 9, 2018 at 5:00 a.m., Rock Antenne Hamburg officially started its successor operation. The 917xfm program window also sends on.

Since the end of the 1990s there has been a city magazine on Thursdays on the city frequency 91.7 MHz, which can only be received terrestrially, between 7 and 10 p.m. Initially, the program was called Hamburg Frequency 91.7 , then it operated under the name Citymagazin . Due to the limited reception area (see above), the program dealt with local issues. Since January 2008, the magazine has been repeated on the other frequencies after 10 p.m. The broadcast has now been stopped because 917xfm has been broadcasting on this frequency since the end of 2010. The interactivity of the program was also increased by the so-called Black Hour , which was broadcast Monday to Friday from 9:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and Black Sunday , Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Music requests from the listeners were played there.
