The Reeperbahn Festival offers as Europe's biggest club festival annually over four days in late September, several hundred program points around the Reeperbahn in Hamburg and is one of the most important venues in the music industry worldwide. Initially conceived as a pure music festival, the event took place for the first time in 2006. Since 2009, the programmatic expansion has provided concerts as well as an extensive art program and a business platform for companies and organizations from the international music and neighboring digital economy. In 2018, for the 13th edition of the Reeperbahn Festival, 900 program items from a wide range of disciplines for over 40,000 trade and festival visitors (by days) from all over the world will take place in more than 90 venues in St. Pauli from 19 to 22 September.

The Reeperbahn Festival is a co-production of the Reeperbahn Festival GbR and Inferno Events GmbH & Co. KG.

development

As an urban club festival, the Reeperbahn Festival attaches great importance to the support of newcomers from all over the world. The music program covers a wide range of music from indie , pop , rock , folk , singer-songwriter , electronic , hip-hop , soul , jazz and classical . Long before their big breakthrough, artists such as Bon Iver from America, the successful German artists Cro and Kraftklub , Biffy Clyro or Chilly Gonzales and Ed Sheeran from Great Britain played at the Reeperbahn Festival.

Since the Reeperbahn Festival was initiated, music-related visual arts, urban art, literature and film have been offered in addition to the performances of numerous artists. This area has always been expanded. The Reeperbahn Festival offers young artists a platform and promotes interdisciplinarity and networking of different sectors as well as the development of further scenes. An integral part of the Reeperbahn Festival art program is the large sales exhibition "Flatstock Europe Poster Convention", which presents not only artist posters but also concert announcement posters in screen print quality and has been taking place at the Reeperbahn Festival since 2006. Furthermore, in addition to various exhibitions and installations of various genres of art, literary events are an important component of the Reeperbahn Festival. An extensive music film program has been supplementing the Reeperbahn Festival since 2016. This was expanded to include the Music Film Contest in 2017 .

In addition to the public program, the Reeperbahn Festival offers a professional visitor program for companies and organizations from the international music and digital industries. They can make contacts and present their products at conferences, networking sessions, showcase concerts and many other innovative events.

Media coverage

The media coverage extends to numerous articles in print and online media as well as television and radio broadcasts.

Die Zeit Online: Pop meets politics - Reeperbahn Festival: “Making social impact with music” / “Raise Your Voice”: Critical sounds create political awareness.

"The Reeperbahn Festival is one of the largest and most important platforms for young artists, newcomers and the music industry," wrote Deutschlandfunk .

The Hamburger Abendblatt quoted John Gammon from the British-American trade magazine “Pollstar”: “At the time when the cancellation of Popkomm left the largest European music market without an international platform, Hamburg closed the gap [...]. The festival is getting better every year - I had far too few fingers to count all the great concerts I have seen ”.

The Huffington Post reports: “ […] (Reeperbahn Festival) is one of the best festivals in Europe for uncovering great new talents before the rest of the world catches on, and now with the Anchor Award, there's a way to further those artists that seem ready to rise to the next level.

In 2017, a discussion in the Schmidt Theater caused a sensation, during which Herbert Grönemeyer described German pop music as "Frau-Merkel-durchgebelt".
