Ibeyi is a French - Cuban music duo made up of twin sisters Lisa-Kaindé and Naomi Díaz .
Band history
The duo has been under contract with the British music label XL Recordings since 2013 .
Ibeyi sing their lyrics in English, French, Spanish and in Yoruba , a Nigerian language that came to Cuba as part of the slave trade in the 18th century . Ibeyi is the word for twins in Yoruba .
Lisa-Kaindé and Naomi Díaz are daughters of the Cuban percussionist Miguel "Angá" Díaz , who was a member of the Buena Vista Social Club and played with Ibrahim Ferrer , Rubén González and Compay Segundo . After his death in 2006, the twins began to learn the cajón played by Angá and the Yoruba folk songs at the age of 11 . In February 2015, at the age of 19, they released their debut album .
