XL recordings
XL Recordings is a British independent label founded in 1989 by Tim Palmer and Nick Halkes . It was originally founded as an offshoot of the Beggars Banquet label for dance and rave music.
Thanks to artists and acts like The Prodigy and SL2 , XL became very successful in the early 1990s.
Since the late 1990s, other genres such as freak folk , alternative rock and hip hop have been represented on the label. B. Lemon Jelly , Adele , Devendra Banhart , Basement Jaxx , The White Stripes , Peaches , Dizzee Rascal , MIA , Ratatat , Tapes' n Tapes , Cajun Dance Party , Be your own PET and RJD2 .
Thom Yorke of Radiohead released his first solo album The Eraser in July 2006 on XL Recordings. After Radiohead released their album In Rainbows in October 2007 only as a download, they also signed a contract with XL Recordings in November.
In October 2012, the label announced that the album 21 by Adele to date 18 million have been sold and that XL by (2010: 36 million) in 2011 sales of 181 million US dollars made.
In June 2019 XL released Leak 04-13 (Bait Ones), Jai Paul's debut album , which was not officially released due to a leak in 2013, as well as Paul's first single since the leak.
