RJD2 is derived from its name "Ramble Jon" and that of the R2D2 robot from Star Wars . In 1998 "RJ" came to Columbus, Ohio and became a DJ for the hip-hop group Megahertz . After their debut album, his name became known. He received offers for remixes for successful artists such as Massive Attack . With the mixtaper release Your Face Or Your Kneecaps he gave a little foretaste of the upcoming album Deadringer . A year later, in 2002, he made his breakthrough in the hip-hop scene.
