RJD2 is derived from its name "Ramble Jon" and that of the R2D2 robot from Star Wars . In 1998 "RJ" came to Columbus, Ohio and became a DJ for the hip-hop group Megahertz . After their debut album, his name became known. He received offers for remixes for successful artists such as Massive Attack . With the mixtaper release Your Face Or Your Kneecaps he gave a little foretaste of the upcoming album Deadringer . A year later, in 2002, he made his breakthrough in the hip-hop scene. The album also contained the song Ghostwriter , which was or can be heard in several commercials in England and the USA , as well as in the films Wimbledon - Game, Set and ... Love and Couch Whispers (as a remix). The Adidas commercial Jose + 10 uses his song De L'alouette . Due to his instinct for mixing funk / soul samples with hip-hop rhythms, RJD2 has been a recognized producer in the hip-hop scene since then, but mainly still in the underground .
On the album Since We Last Spoke , which was released in 2004, more rock music influences can be heard, pure hip-hop tracks, for example with rappers, as on the predecessor, are completely missing. The Third Hand , released in 2007, is a pop album that was mainly recorded live. You can also hear RJD2 singing more often here.
The RJD2 song A Beautiful Mine is the theme song of the American television series Mad Men, which has been broadcast since 2007 .
