Son Little

Aaron Earl Livingston (* in Los Angeles , California ), also known as Son Little , is an American singer-songwriter and music producer who is under contract with the independent label ANTI Records .

Aaron Livingston was born in Los Angeles to a pastor and teacher , but grew up in New Jersey , Louisiana , New York, and Philadelphia .
Music career
Son Little's style of music is a mixture of soul , blues , R&B , jazz , hip-hop and garage rock . He himself describes his genre as future soul . Vocally, he is often compared with Bob Marley , Marvin Gaye or Leon Bridges .
According to his own statements, his influences and inspirations are mainly Mavis Staples , but also John Coltrane , Miles Davis , Weather Report , Stevie Wonder , Marvin Gaye , Smokey Robinson , Paul McCartney and The Beatles , the Wu-Tang Clan , Kendrick Lamar , Beres Hammond , Sizzla , Capleton and Grizzly Bear , as well as the authors Salman Rushdie , Cormac McCarthy , Octavia E. Butler and William Gibson .
Son Little began his musical career under his real name Aaron Livingston in Philadelphia in 2011 with his first collaborations with local greats such as The Roots and RJD2 .
2014: EP Things I Forgot
After the label ANTI-Records took him under care at the beginning of the year, Son Little released his EP Things I Forgot in November 2014 . After the US-wide tour with Kelis , a tour of Europe with Selah Sue and soul singer Curtis Harding followed in autumn 2014 .
2015: Mavis Staples Your Good Fortune and debut album Son Little
In April 2015 Mavis Staples released her EP Your Good Fortune , in which Son Little was a producer , instrumentalist and songwriter . In October 2015 he released his first own studio album called Son Little . He sees the album as a metaphorical journey through the USA with its diverse locations and musical styles.
“I can trace where a lot of my music came from, as my life and my family touch so many different places. I can hear Lake Charles, Louisiana in my voice, the way I say some of the words; I hear New York in my lyrics. Detroit is a place I haven't spent a ton of time in, but if I explore the music of Detroit, I can hear myself in there, too. ”
