With over 102,000 inhabitants (2016 estimate, US Census Bureau ), Davenport is the third largest city in the state of Iowa in the United States ( USA ). At the 2010 census, the population was 99,685. The city is part of what are known as the Quad Cities of Iowa and Illinois . Well-known institutions are the Palmer College of Chiropractic and Saint Ambrose University . Davenport is the capital of Scott County .
Davenport regularly hits the headlines because it's the only town on the Mississippi River that doesn't have flood control or levees . Open access to the river is preferred, so every newly built building must be above the 100-year maximum water level or be secured by flood walls. Examples of flood-proof or flood-proof buildings are the John O'Donnell Stadium and the Figge Art Museum .
