Tyree Ricardo "Ricky" Davis (born September 23, 1979 in Las Vegas , Nevada ) is a retired American basketball player who was most of his professional career in the NBA .
High school and college
Davis attended North High School in Davenport, Iowa . There he was the starter of the basketball team for four years and attracted attention early on. He then played another year for the University of Iowa and then signed up for the NBA draft .
NBA career
Charlotte Hornets
Davis was selected in the 1998 NBA Draft in 21st place by the Charlotte Hornets . He played for the team for two years but was transferred to the Miami Heat in August 2000 in a large trade that involved nine players .
Miami Heat (2000-2001)
In his third season, Davis suffered a serious knee injury. As a result, he came from 2000 to 2001 only seven games for the Heat and was ultimately given to the Cleveland Cavaliers .
Cleveland Cavaliers
In August 2001 Davis signed a six-year contract with the Cavaliers, where he had good and bad phases. He liked to argue with coach Paul Silas and was dismissed by many as an egoist and self-promoter who liked to do "stat padding". His attempt to achieve a triple double in the game against Utah Jazz in 2003 was curious , in which he deliberately discarded the basketball on his own basket after a throw-in shortly before the end of the game in order to achieve the required offensive rebound to the triple double to reach. At the same time he reached an average of 20.6 points in the 2002/03 season , which clearly exceeded his previous performances. However, this did not prevent the Cavs from transferring Davis.
Boston Celtics
In December 2003, Davis was traded with Chris Mihm , Michael Stewart and a second round pick for Tony Battie , Eric Williams and Kedrick Brown. At the beginning of his career Davis was still referred to as a one-dimensional scorer, but in Boston he developed good rebound behavior and a dangerous throw from distance.
Even so, the Celtics thought Davis was too selfish and decided to start a swap. In the city of Boston Davis was nevertheless a crowd favorite because of his spectacular slam dunks .
Minnesota Timberwolves
On February 26, 2006 Davis was transferred to the Minnesota Timberwolves along with Mark Blount , Marcus Banks , Justin Reed and a second-round pick for Wally Szczerbiak , Michael Olowokandi , Dwayne Jones and a future first-round pick . In his two seasons with the Wolves, Davis averaged about 18 points per game.
Miami Heat (2007-2008)
In October 2007 Davis was transferred to the Heat along with Mark Blount for Antoine Walker , Michael Doleac , Wayne Simien and a first-round pick to Miami .
Pat Riley , who sent Davis away in 2001, admitted it was the wrong decision: “I made the mistake of giving him away. He's very talented and didn't cause any problems. He's been very efficient over the past six years ”.
Davis' stats dropped to 13.8 points per game in Miami. The heat wanted to extend the swingman anyway , but could not hold it.
Los Angeles Clippers
On July 28, 2008, Davis signed a multi-year contract with the Los Angeles Clippers as a free agent . In a disaster season for the Clippers, however, he only played 21.8 minutes on average and scored 6.4 points per game.
Since 2010
Turk Telecom
On March 2, 2010 Davis signed a contract with the Turkish first division club Türk Telekom until the end of the season.
Chorale Roanne Basket
After he could not find another place in the NBA at the beginning of the 2010/2011 season, Davis kept himself fit with private training. At the beginning of February 2011 he finally got a contract with Chorale Roanne Basket in France until the end of the season .
Maine Red Claws
On December 29, the Maine Red Claws from the NBA Development League (D-League) announced the signing of Davis. Davis had previously worked to recover from a knee injury and so initially did not get a new contract in the NBA or in Europe.
