Antoine Devon Walker (born August 12, 1976 in Chicago , Illinois ) is a retired American basketball player who was active in the National Basketball Association (NBA) from 1996 to 2008 .

Walker was appointed to the roster of the NBA All-Star Games three times (1998, 2002, 2003) and was in the starting five in 2002 . In 2006 he was able to win the NBA championship with the Miami Heat . In his NBA career, he averaged 17.5 points, 7.7 rebounds and 3.5 assists in 893 games.

Career

Youth and college

The eight-foot tall walker attended Mount Carmel High School when he was a teenager . He later moved to the University of Kentucky , where he below the famous college coach Rick Pitino champion in the NCAA Men's Division 1 Basketball Championship was the 1996th He was named MVP and selected sixth by the Boston Celtics in the annual NBA Draft that same year .

NBA

For his first year performance as a professional player, he was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team . With the Celtics he was active until 2003 and reached the final of the Eastern Conference in the 2001/02 season , where they had to admit defeat 2: 4 against the New Jersey Nets . During his time in Boston, Walker was one of the best forwards in the league. In seven years with the Celtics he averaged around 20 points, 8.5 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 4 assists per game.

Shortly before the start of the 2003/04 season , Walker was transferred to the Dallas Mavericks . Here he could not prevail due to strong competition and was handed over to the Atlanta Hawks after only one year . In return, Jason Terry joined the Mavericks. Even with the Hawks, Walker did not last long and so he returned to the Boston Celtics during the 2004/05 season .

August of the same year was part of the largest transfer in NBA history: Walker and 12 other players were traded by five different clubs. He was transferred to the Miami Heat , with whom he was able to win the 2006 NBA championship.

On October 24, 2007 , Walker was sent to the Minnesota Timberwolves along with Michael Doleac , Wayne Simien, a first-round draft pick and funds in exchange for Ricky Davis and Mark Blount . With the Wolves, Walker missed the playoffs that he had always reached in six years before.

On June 26, 2008, Walker was transferred again. In the package with his teammates Marko Jarić , Greg Buckner and OJ Mayo , who was elected third in the draft , he moved to Tennessee to the Memphis Grizzlies . The Timberwolves got Mike Miller , Jason Collins , Brian Cardinal and the rights to Kevin Love in return . However, Walker did not play a game for the Grizzlies and was released from his contract that same year.

Since 2009

After he spent the 2009/2010 season in Puerto Rico and played there for the Guaynabo Coquistadores, he tried to return to the NBA for the 2010/11 season . He completed a trial with the Charlotte Bobcats , but received no contract for the season.

He then joined the Idaho Stampede in the NBA D-League . On December 9, 2010, he made his debut for Stampede in an 83 to 80 win against the Dakota Wizards and contributed 13 points to the win. He played for the team for two years and announced the end of his playing career in April 2012 after the last game of the season.

  • Walker has already been robbed twice: once in July 2000, together with Nazr Mohammed when leaving a restaurant, and in 2007, in his own house.
  • Walker graces the cover of EA Sports' 1999 video game NBA Live .
  • On May 18, 2010, Walker had to file for bankruptcy due to insolvency.
